Just got my notice in the mail today for GDE hunt in Dec, any others got it this week? Last time hunted there was Dec 1997 damn cold that weekend! low 20's very dry cold! Big 6point taken, he made good sausage!

Guess a trip to recon this park again, not sure if they made improvements or not? Any others been there over the past few years? If so zip me mail, im by myself, guess its AR time this time, for hogs and some meat for the freezer!
Guess I better get out my camping gear tent and stuff.....
Im ready, just hope for a nice cold weekend....
Hunt will be second week of Dec 11- 13th....

Lots of deer all over that place. Never hunted it, but fished there quite a bit. You might get lucky and get an exotic. They've been taken there before.

I saw the one of the biggest bucks I have ever seen, while on a doe hunt there. We hunted a compartment near the entrance to park, on the right hand side. Very thick near the park road but very open towards the back area. We saw a lot of deer. Did not see any exotics. This was in '05. Throw out plenty of corn if they allow baiting now.

My husband and I have that same hunt/week. We have a bumper pull trailer that we may take but would rather find a cabin in the area. What are you planning. Anyone have any suggestions for lodging?

Take your camper and relax. Fish the river while your there. You can camp next to river and fish right out of camp. Or get back under the edge with trees and in the shade and out of wind. They have a nice primitive camp grounds with small store. It is also about 10 miles of slow dirt road to get out to pavement and I don't think there is any lodging for 40 to 50 miles. The one store at Bend (15 Miles) has some supplies.

No camper for us here, got out the old winter tent here, old 9x9 heavy canvas tent, just finished water proofing it today here. Hopefully some of the cold wx will linger into next week of our hunt! Dec 11-13 wed, thurs, Friday.
Im staying the park near the river, oh by the way the river is still dry! Lake Buchanan is still 38ft low.... no water in the upper parts of the river.. Soon as they get 8 to a 12" rain, no water will flow!.... Since its been a while we were there not sure what hardware to bring, either close shots or shooting over a big canyon? who knows its a luck of the draw. Last time we drew out numbers from a box... all blinds were numbered. All I remember by blind was a 5 gallon paint bucket in some brush. My rear was sore that weekend! Not gonna happen again this year. Got the leftover turkey soup made, rest this coming weekend....

They now have up to date blinds in the park? Was last there in 1997 first week and Dec, low 20's in the am, cold/dry air.

Im getting later this week and simple fold up chair to use, my back don't do a 5 gallon bucket setting there for 3 to 4 hrs!
Got the feed, yea we did then too. A montster deformed buck was killed in our group, would make a weird wall mount, mastitized horns, like Bullwinkle!

Just saw the weather forecast for next week, looks cold, some rain, no sleet yet! But we may get it this weekend here in Dripping Springs/Blanco area here.

Hunt time, 12-11 to 12-13th.... im ready!
