Has anyone had any luck in the Woodson area in throckmorton county? This is our first year in this area and all activity seems dead. Our game cameras show decent deer activity but it is all at night. We might have 1 or 2 daytime pics. We've been out every weekend and have only seen deer twice.
Is this typical for this area or is this just an off year for everyone?

I'm just into Young county from the Throckmorton line east of Woodson. While slower than last year, I've seen deer just no buck shooters. All the mature bucks on cam are on the move and are just showing back up on cam. Seen plenty of does but have been hesitant to harvest with the rut on.

I think it should pick up from here but I'm on a half section, small place.

Ranger, I'm in a similar boat to you on the SW Young/Throckmorton county lines. Some decent nighttime activity on camera but almost non-existent daytime activity to speak of. I've been out there for 5 years and I'd say overall there is usually quite a bit more nighttime movement but usually more daytime activity than I've seen this year. So for me, an off year for deer movement.

My daughter shot a doe opening weekend. And we have seen the same spike and 5 point at our feeders but not much else. There's one pic of a nice 8 point but again that was around 2 am. Hunted this weekend and didn't see a thing. Ironically we've seen a bigger buck at our home in Collin county! Hoping things will pick up and maybe a cold snap will get the deer to the feeders

Ranger

I had a nice bachelor group on cam all year but heavy from August to Nov 3rd. Not seen them since. Have seen about 4 1.5 yr old bucks that never showed on cam all year. I have to believe the mature deer will migrate back to home range soon. Where is your place and how big? Curious were probably pretty close.

We are on about 320 acres off Jones Rd. Sunshine rd runs the back of our property. Where are y'all located at? We have a huge hog population too. Not sure if that's affecting the deer or what. Apparently the guy who leased it last year shot a 150 buck off the place.

You're just south of me. I'm at 209 and 578. Not sure where Sunset road is by Jones but I would pen your feeders to keep the pigs out. Deer do not like them at all. Keep in touch.

Ranger, out of curiosity, what county and where were you hunting previous to this season?

There are big deer out there Ranger but like anywhere, it's being in the right stand at the right time. I have not seen 150 class deer yet on cam but 3 or 4 with potential to get there in a few years. Good luck

And I'm not to concerned about getting a big one yet, it was just the lack of any deer activity that had me worried. But if this is the general trend this year I won't worry bout it and just hope for some changes!

I've hunted out by Bronte before, nice country out there. Used to eat at Beefmasters in Ballinger, heard it's still going strong. It is nice being 2 hrs from FTW though.

That's why we switched leases, it was just too far to go out every weekend. The new lease is only 2 hr and 45 min away
