looking at getting myself a new .308 and wanting to spend in the $500 dollar range. I'm looking at some Remington, savage, and Thompson Center guns but not to sure what to go for. anyone have any info or help for my decision.
I like the look of the Thompson Center Venture and comes with a scope in the $530 range and I've seen a few remingtons and savages in the 400 range with no scope so just trying to get some info from anyone.

The Savage Hog Hunter is a well setup rifle. You could also get an ADL 700 from Academy for only $379 I think.

I bought a Ruger American Compact in 7mm08 as a cheap throwdown. Turns out it is a handy, accurate, rifle. I topped mine with a Vortex Diamondback and might have $500 in it total.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Rem 700 ADL put into a Boyds Laminate stock.. I haven't done one of these yet that wouldn't shoot well under an inch with reloads.

Savage and Nikon Package The Savage 11Trophy Hunter XP is the best package deal out there IMO. The rifle is accurate, the trigger is fantastic and, it has a great scope on it. If you click on the instant quote button it will tell you how much it would cost in your neck of the woods but it should be right at $500. I have given away several of these and use them in my program. We have a couple of 243s that have accounted for over 20 Whitetail deer and a 30-06 that has taken several exotics. They are great guns at a great value.

I have several Savage and Remington rifles, even a Ruger M77 in .22-250, but my .308 and .243 are Marlin XS-7. Some will probably scoff but I really like both of them and they are very accurate. They were even priced below the Savages that I like so well. Just might want to check them out.
