Oh yea........forgot the story........short and sweet.....
Was planning on leaving last Saturday and hunt through Wednesday but our dear Texas weather put a little kink in the plans since the heater in the trailer went out and I would have to stay at our old hunting shack on the homeplace sooo. I left Monday morning for a long haul by myself. Tuesday morning up at 5 with ice on the truck windows and 25 degrees with the wind at 12mph and decided to hunt the front bllnd overlooking the cut hay field. Saw does and small bucks right off the bat and looked hard at a mature 8 which was thick but not very wide or tall. Hunted the same field Tuesday afternoon and was covered up with deer and a few young bucks chasing them around but no shooters. I crawled out of the bunk at 5 again Wednesday morning with ice on the windshield and 25 degrees again with a 5mph wind..perfect...I decided to try the far back blind in the pasture where I missed the buck opening weekend. Right after the feeder exploded I had deer movement with a really young doe and this guy behind her(lookin for jailtime). After scoping him out several times and putting my rifle back down he finally gave me a good look and it was just one of those times where you really want to be home for Thanksgiving and he was no trophy but a good mature 10 point Tongue River buck. It was all history after that and glad I made the decision with no second thoughts after he kicked high with his hind legs and ran about 20 yards while crumpling to the ground. My Thanksgiving buck.....May he RIP. Did a little cleaning on the ole shack-filled feeders and ready for another trip with grandson in December..good times !

ARE WE THERE YET ?
