Hmm. Interesting points.
If this had been a more serious crime, what would you say? Also, no money was sought after, and by the way, lease manager didnot call GW. Happened to be one of the youngest members who was brought up as a kid to respect all laws.
There have been several other issues with during the past 2 years. He has shot and wounded several nice bucks, never recovered any of them, and after the 3rd one last yer i told him he should concern himself with a doe. He didnt and knocked another buck down that was recovered much later. Has done same this year. He wants to hunt with a 12 gauge and rifled slugs out of a smooth bore anddoes not a rifle. No biggie, i grew up in Louisiana and shotgun is a very effective weapon, but know limitations.
Wandering around lease and in other people's areas. Each person has their own area and another must have permission to go to another's area. He has been on lease for 2 years and out of 9 hunters, only 3 people knew who he was, and one of the 3 just met him last week. Seems like Texas is running low on Texans.. At least the ones that made it Texas to begin with... This little skit makes calling the GW even more gutless than ever... Wrong is wrong, no doubting that.... But it's even more wrong to slither around behind someones back because noone has the balls to man up and deal with a problem face to face... And to put some impressionable young kid up to doing doing the deed is the lowest.... No wonder our country is headin to hell in a handbasket.....

What he forgot to mention was he shot it across the fence with a spot light...still shouldn't call the GW? Wrong is wrong. Can't say I would have called, but can't say I wouldn't have...sure wouldn't blame someone else for calling. From the rest of the story, sounds like the one that did it had a complete disregard for rules and little to no respect for the animals. Depending on the character of the guy, I very likely might have made the call and wouldn't have missed a wink of sleep over it.

Either its past midnight and I am misunderstanding your post, or maybe.... First of all the kid is 25. Second, I guess its just the cop in me, after 30 years as LEO, that right is right and wrong is wrong. NOW, with that said, the law is not black and white, but has shades if gray. I'm not sure what you do for a living, maybe military with the location you have listed, but I would be courious to know what you might do in a situation. For instance, you are on a patrol and one of your guys make a mistake and shoots an unarmed kid. Your guy comes to you and tells you about it, and says it was a mistake. What are you going to do? If I misunderstood your thoughts or post, just tell me so.

No wonder our country is headin to hell in a handbasket..... I would say its heading that way because of a small percentage of people who think a certain way as some of the posters on this thread think. Heck, why buy a hunting license? Why not use a spotlight? If you see somebody shoot from the road, using a spotlight and a .22 rifle, what would you do?

I would look him/her in the eye and tell them they were wrong and what they needed to do to correct it (make it right), and exactly what I was gonna do if they didn't... Had you or the other lease members had any balls to begin with, he'da been walking upright and respectful or gone long before this particular situation ever came up. But it was easier to weasel around and finally get rid of a guy that noone had the balls to face. Then to blow your horn and boast about the "accomplishment" is really sorry... Maybe that's just me.....

Thank goodness I don't have to hunt on leases. Sounds like a real fun bunch to spend time with during deer season. Wonder how many deer are going to be left in the woods to rot.

what they guy did was wrong, no two ways about it...but calling the GW on him is a chicken $#@t move also To not do your duty as a lease manager would be chicken R#@t, not the other way around. That gutless 25 year old man people are calling a "kid" didn't have the guts to properly report to the game warden that he shot an illegal deer. Some people need a good, swift kick in the pants and the GW is just the person to do it.

If the guy has screwed up so many times in the past, he should've been kicked off before the season. To call the GW on a man that you share camp with, over some antler restrictions is pretty low.

Wish i could say we shared camp. He was on lease couple of years and out of all the hunters, ony 3 of us had rver seen him.

I guess what everybody did not get or understand is, Do not call and try to suck somebody else into your criminal act. The first one, probably a mistake, but then to say you are not tagging it and sneaking it off lease, well that is not right. And especially don't tell LEO!

I think the point he was trying to make was what crime is important enough to you to report it.
I know everyone on this forum is a bad a@# and would kick the guys butt or just give him the look and have him cowering from that and he would change his ways. Well guess what the 25 year old made a decision and called.
Also how was the 40 year old supposed to make it right? Start CPR and bring the illegal deer back to life???
