I cant decide if I should head on out to the lease today, or wait until Wednesday. All the lease members have decided to wait til next weekend, and my wife is really worried about me traveling to Breckenridge from Arlington with the bad weather we have heading this way and has been on my back since about it since yesterday. I haven't been in 2 weeks now, but already have a couple does for the meat, right now I am just hunting to see the big buck thats been visiting my spot. I figure the rut probably kicking into full gear by now, and since I would have the place to myself, maybe a good time to go. I know it may seem kind of silly, but I honestly cant decide. I will be off for 5 days starting Wednesday, so I will have plenty of time beginning then.
Should I head out here shortly, and take a chance, or wait it out til Wednesday?
I leave it your hands for the next hour.

Roads are iced in some areas, is a gamble on hitting the bar ditch worth it?

I would go. Don't get in a hurry, take it easy, and be safe Roads are iced in some areas, is a gamble on hitting the bar ditch worth it? Sometimes the ditch is easier to drive in than the road

At this point looks like the YEs would win out, but regardless, the wife over-rules them. Since its a 2 hours drive almost exactly from my house to the lease, I would not get there until almost 4:30 or so, and thats not counting the slower traffic, and stop for gas and corn, and my wanting to get there in a hurry would worry her even more.
I cant stay overnight since its supposed to be pretty nasty starting in the morning, and its supposed to hit out west earlier than here. Looks like I wont be going until Wednesday then. Oh well, guess I will be doing some reloading today instead.
Thanks for all the replies anyways guys.

Within 30 miles of Breckenridge, just posted. Freezing drizzle now. Trees are beginning to load up with ice.

I'd go if there was a chance to get snowed/iced in at the hunting grounds. That would be 'unfortunate'.

I'm about to leave Austin and head to Breckenridge. Are the roads iced over anywhere?

Ask your wife for a kitchen pass. You only get a few months out of the year to chase deer. Get after it. I'm sitting in the blind right now and I am also married. I told my wife on the day I proposed to her that I hunt during the winter and she can have the summers. Works good for us
I want it to party in my mouth.

You made the right decision. Already icing over out there. Those deer are going to hunker down now anyway. Wednesday looks to be prime, or if you can sneak in Tuesday after it thaws enough.

Different conditions tonight. Been cold all day and the roads have chilled. Yesterday the roads were holding heat so the sleet/ice didn't really stick. Tomorrow through mid day Tuesday will not be good. I have memories of a 12 mile drive from my office to house, that started at 12:30 and ended at 10:30 PM. Not again for me especially on an interstate or state highway. You slide off the road and it may be a day or two until someone gets to you. The deer can wait, I'll think about my family first.
