Hunting on tomorrow on Friday morning, and never really hunted with a true rain before. Will deer activity still be high because of the front even though there is rain with it? got a 60-70% chance here, I am by Abilene, Texas.

The rain is no big deal and they might still come out. If the winds are extreme they may shut down a little. You never know. What I do know when its rain and cold I have been known to sleep in zzzzzz.

Deer are comfort creatures like us. Hard rain and big wind. They will shut down and wait for better conditions. The rut does change all the rules. In my experience, be there after storms clear. All the deer will be on their feet.

Winds gusting to 35 tomorrow and to 30 on Saturday, ,, my experience is that wind is going to shut them down. At least it does here. I'll be sleeping in tomorrow morning.

That is what i used to think to. Until i got on this lease. I see tons of deer with the wind blowing 20 to 30 mph. But hey i hunt out here with the strange deer of Coke County

I like a 15 to 20 mph wind personally. You can move around and make noise that would otherwise spook them. It was windy two weeks ago and I saw a lot of deer.

I like hunting when its windy and cold as well. You can find the bowls that are out of the brunt of the wind and the deer will be there.

just got back from my mini hunt..left Granbury Thursday 21st it was 81 degrees..humid as all get out..got to vancourt..190 miles toward san angelo..unloaded and ...turned on the air in the trailer...woke up at midnight freezing..wind had switched to the north..blowing at 40mph..and sleeting..turned on propane lit the heater and went back to sleep..Got back up at 4am to a thick cover of sleet and ice and a temp of 18 degrees..wind blowing 40 mph..hunted my blind..needless to say..nothing was moving..stayed till 10 am went back to trailer to thaw and eat and nap..went out to another blind..warmer one..big buddy heater at my side,,saw couple of does..and one forker..no shooters or no rut..deer were still hung up with the frozen weather..this continued as the weather deteriated...went to my secret place on the lease..my "Ambush"spot..saw 4 does in the wheat field..and a yearling doe being run off the corned road by a small 6 point..they were gone in about 3 minutes..then nothing..i was hunting off a ground blind about 70 yards away..man it was cold..about 28 with a 30-40-mph north wind..well enough of this..went back to camp while it was sleeting and drizzling..turned up the heater..ate supper and went to bed..thought I would be trapped until Monday..but a break in the weather came just in time..heat wave came in..about 35 and the winds layed..loaded up got the heck out of dodge while the roads were travelable..left vancourt about 7 am pulled into Granbury at 11:00 CANT WAIT TILL WEDNESDAY..going back down with the little lady and staying for 6 more days..weather supposed to be perfect..lows in the 30's highs in the upper 50's..rut should be in full force...side note..we saw more deer coming from vancourt to Rowena..about a 30 mile drive.on the roads..and crossing the roads than all weekend..go figure
