I hunted this weekend and it was like something from a comic strip. My girlfriend and I sat in the blind for hours saturday morning and didn't see a single deer. It was getting close to 9:30 and I had a lot to do that day so I decided to leave the blind and get ready to head back home. I wanted to check for tracks around some corn piles I put out.
Well, I got about 15 yards from my blind when a nice buck hopped over the fence. Somehow he didn't see us. We were walking over broken sticks and even talking quietly but when I saw him, we froze. I had already unloaded the gun thinking we were headed home so I racked a round in as quiet as I could. At this point the deer was on the other side of a tree and some bushes. I very slowly side stepped to get a clear shot and all of a sudden he got spooked and jumped the fence back into the woods. This all happened within 2-3 minutes of getting out of the popup blind. If I would have stayed I could have easily taken the buck.
I didn't get a good look at his antlers since he was mostly behind the bushes but I guarantee he was an 8 pt or better. Hunted again Sunday and Monday without seeing a thing. Oh well, better luck next time. Atleast I know theres a nice buck there which is really rare for this place.
I'm on a couple of forums in case you've already read this.
