So I'm finding it a bit difficult. Is there anywhere within 90 minutes or so of the dfw area that I can get waterfowl without a boat? Recently moved here, and been dying to get my lab out there. Any public land names would be greatly appreciated. It seems as if it's basically illegal to hunt from land around here?

Jordan, several of the posters on this site are guides, your best bet is to hook up with one of them if you want to hunt on land. Look at the bottom of their posts for the name of their service. They will take you to mostly private land. It's nothing personal but till some get to know you no one will show you any good public spots. Or you can get a public land hunting permit $49 and scout.
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

I just moved to Texas 3 weeks ago and also live within 90 miles of DFW. I scouted and drove around burning fuel and money and it paid off when I limited out in 1.5 hrs yesterday on public land. There are birds here you just have to find them. Good luck!

Jordan...there's lots of info on here for hunting public. You need to just read up. Look at all of SniperJohn's posts as he has a lot of detail on public hunting in Texas with many internet links.
Naming lakes is considered bad etiquette. Asking is worse. Everyone is expected to put their own scouting time in.
Get with a guide or two, there's a bunch of them that advertise on here. They can take you out to some public spots...but remember the golden rule: if you ever get taken to a public spot you never go back to it without your host's permission.
Otherwise all hell breaks loose.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Jordon All the information you are wanting can be found on this forum but you are going to have to do the work to find out, no one is just going to hand it to you.

I'm not for spot hand outs. More of a general area to scout. I've got a lake down south I'm going to scout Saturday so we ll see how it goes.

Look up Type II land and go buy a permit from a Texas Parks and Wildlife Deparment office so they can hand you a guide with maps.

I think he might of taken your advice, I didn't see a single duck in those ponds today. I did see a guy cutting the antlers off of a dead deer on the side of 121 in front of Bass Pro today though. Oh I almost forgot to add that my brother reported the tanks at the Lewisville waste water area are loaded with mallards.
