I hope no one runs dogs on my place for hogs.....we have snares set all over the place for yotes. My best guess is that you have about 1.5 minutes from the time they hit the snare to get them cut loose.....

P'State 'Yote Snares what a great idea!

Been a while ...had a small 2 man lease out east of Desdemona many years ago that was overun with HogDogs from a neighbor back when hogs were a rarity and desired bonus game critter...watched him drive up to our fence line several times from a very high rocky overlook and turn the dogs out...TT'd the local GW who sez he couldn't do nuthin until HE Observed the dogs on our place...until my lease partner shot one of them and called to the GW from the LO's house in those pre cell phone days to SHOW him what we were complaining about.

The GW wanted to write us up 'cause we knew who owned the Dog and it had a collar on proving it was a pet and not a feral dog....until he heard a truck pull up to our side fence and all hell broke loose from a pack of dogs that came sailing past us chasin some does.

Seems the neighbor was related somehow...we had a different GW the next year. Oh Well

On dogs.... I had bought a 40 acres tract of land several months ago; we set up some feeders and cameras. We have NEVER gotten a picture of a deer on it. We have lots of pictures of hogs, and a neighbors dogs. One of the neighbors has 3-4 dogs that run loose and run all over my land, espically at night.

What rights do I have in the county to do anything about those dogs? I think talking to the neighbor would unlikely go well. The guy I bought the land from actually is living on the land for a few more months (a trailer at the front) and he has been there 20+ years and there has been a constant feud with that neighbor including death threats with multiple sheriff involvements and such.

I am not a trouble maker, am a professional that lives 200 miles away, and want zero trouble. I would like to keep the animals off my property though. What rights, if any, does a land owner have to trap (live) dogs? Even if you do this, what do you do with them afterwards? Maybe some people would suggest shooting/killing the dogs, but I am not certain I care to do this either.

Just a bit loss on best approach; I have a lease elsewhere that is my primary hunting grounds, but obviously it would be nice to hunt your own land. There ARE deer in the area, we have seen several does and even a decent 9 or 10 point all less than a mile away crossing roads and such. I am convinced the dogs keep the deer away from my property.

T MD SSS is the answer, Shoot Shovel and Shaddup about it. This is what happened in the Rockies when the Wolf population almost totally decimated the Elk Fawn crop in several areas...and lead to Wolf Tags being issued now in some states as a way to at least get an idea of how bad it really is and get that successful tag harvest info into the data base...otherwise SSS was creating a sub class of right minded folks just takin care of bidnizz that could not be tracked.

I got ripped on here recently for suggesting that Texas Hunters aka Taxpayers get the same break that Rockies Resident Hunters Taxpayers do on Federal Lands by THF'ers who were whining that Texas NEEDS all the Non Res $'s we can get.... and doan't touch that potential revenue stream with NO Kinda Nuthin. What I was talking about was tee totaly off any restrictions on Non Res Hunters ON PRIVATE Lands but directed ONLY at NON RES participation on TP&W Land just like they were a Texas Res...and THAT was totally ignored by folks who are too quick on the draw or have other issues from playing their banjo's on the porch.

So SSS is your solution and OBTW keep your Q&A's about this issue off line in case some Legal Eagle working for the neighbor does a Wikipedia search on you 'cause what is said on THF for sure WILL show up on WikiLeaks...ask me how I know that...

Leave the neighbor alone and take care of YOUR own bidnizz and property. Just Sayin ...

Our problem used to be the doggers would start running once general season ended and we still had 2 months of MLD left. When you were paying that much $ for a great ETX lease, a yapping dog was the last thing you wanted down there, but the hogs would funnel them right down the river and get away from the guys bc you just can't keep up with the amt of backwater down there.

I've had hog dogs run up on my stands while I was hunting and yes, it definitely bothers both me and the deer!

Your property, your business.

And, yes, I know the laws.

New laws need to protect landowners against this non-sense.

Until then, I would be a coyote trappin' fool!!!

Actually, snares don't kill all dogs. I run snares and also have hog hunters come in from time to time. We've released several if his dogs and I had one of my gsd's in a snare for twelve hours before I found it.
