3mm or 5mm Neoprene #4748605 11/14/13 05:40 PM

I am about to purchase a new pair of waders. I have always had 3mm Neoprene waders but I am considering 5mm. What do you guys suggest? I do all of my hunting in Texas and do some public hunting that requires a healthy walk in. My 3mm waders turn into an oven pretty quickly on the walk in and I didn't know if 5 mm would be unbearable.

Breathable! 5mm in Texas surely can't be good

I think you just answered your question...

Unless you always hunt standing water, most can get away with breathables all year in TX

I really dont think 5mm is that much warmer than 3mm, just more durable. Neither breathe, so both will probably be equally hot for your hike.

Between the two, definitely 3 mm. I use breathable all season here in the panhandle. Neoprene are way too hot for any kind of walking!

I like the 5mm...they will keep me from looking like Ralphies brother.

I've got 5mm and am never incredibly hot. They are heavy though, and I wish I had the breathables for the long hike ins.

I have 5mm, but my next pair will be breathable.

I like 5mm waders, they seem to be tuffer material, I never really get hot but don't have a lot of natural insulation (body fat) either.
A buddy that is a little larger can not stand neoprene at all because they get to hot for him.

Breathable- and never look back.
You can always layer up with them, and they will last.

No bad days hunting

I have canvas, 3mm and 5mm. Different situations call for different gear!

5mm is too much for North Texas. I bought some at Mack's a few years ago and rarely wear them. If I had to do it all over again, breathable 3mm for sure.

I carry my waders and put them on after i cool down from the walk. I have both thicknesses but only break out the heavies if its super cold. Walking in either kind is too hot for me.
