Had a very similar situation on opening day.

Public land of course.

Show up around 3:30 am and head to a spot we had scouted out the previous week. We figured it would be busy, so were prepared - there were 8 trucks when we showed up.

So we head down to the spot, a few lights flashed us on the way in, but none where we were heading.

We get to our spot and out of nowhere some guy yells at us... "Don't you see us over here? There are 3 of us here and 3 more 50 yards up shore." (keep in mind, it's 3:45 am) "Uhm... no... you have no light on, nor did you flash us." They sounded about 40 or 50 yards away. So we go to the second spot, which was about 60 yards more yards down shore.

Firing time starts and a few are flying to the middle of the water. Whenever ANYTHING flew within 120 yards of these guys, they were unloading everything they had - needless to say, nothing was staying around. Comeback calls non-stop... nothing else.

When it finally got light enough to see, they were set up about 15 yards back of the waterline, actually had a nice set up of mojo's an decoys, and birds were flying in... but because they'd start shooting from 120 yards back, nothing came closer.

We managed to get a few from fly-ins from a different direction, but they conditioned those birds quickly.

Very sad.

They had to set up in a different spot to get away from y'all in a hurry so that's why they didn't have any cover. Don't always jump to conclusions.

TAMUDU'15, I was at a different lake than the one you were probably mentioning. I drive several hours to one farther from campus to avoid that mess. Sorry to hear about your buds though

Thanks man. Yeah they left a nice little love letter on some poor boy's Toyota. Best of luck hunting public this year. I think we'll all need it.

If you hunted the same lake I did, a white Tacoma rolled through by where I was setting up Saturday. I was at a walk in only area and it was within an hour of LST
