Might as well...it's an antlerless & could have been a spike next yr. but wait, are you indirectly condoning the killing of spikes? Just pointing out legalities...could be twice as legal. Hey, a spike is a legal extra buck. Thank you TP&W. They can all shut their judgmental pie holes.

If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

Fawn ? Not if the horns were 1.5 inch long. You shot a yearling spike not a nubbin Buck.

I am all for people shooting what they want, but not real hip on folks intentionally shooting fawns. No doubt they are tender and make great camp meat, but if you are truly JUST hunting for meat, there is a lot more meat on the six pointers you passed.
As long as he tagged it legally, nobody should be bichin, especially if they don't hunt with him. The people that do hunt with him were biching, as would I if someone on my place intentionally shot a fawn and claimed it was for meat. A fawn isn't that much more tender than a 1.5yo six pointer and you get more meat, so seems that excuse is out the window. I don't hunt with him, so I don't give two rats rears what he shot and congratulate him on his one meal that he harvested. He posted complaining that the people he does hunt with had a problem...and I still don't see why he was surprised.

And they've started extending the nubbin/antlerless seasons.

And they've started extending the nubbin/antlerless seasons. All in the name of letting bucks mature and the overall improvement of Texas deer herds.

Fawn ? Not if the horns were 1.5 inch long. You shot a yearling spike not a nubbin Buck. We have fawns that will break the skin, thus they are no longer nubbins, but are still fawns.

Who cares what everyone else thinks. Congrats on filling your cooler with what you wanted, Meat. Thats the end purpose of hunting right? Or is it just a set of horns to hang on the wall and when September/October comes along and they still have last years meat in the freezer. Is funny how those trophy hunters look for someone to give it to. Funny thing is that scenerio happens more than most trophy hunters want to admit.

Maybe it wasn't a legal buck where he hunts.

Maybe it wasn't a legal buck where he hunts. There was nothing said to insinuate that it wasn't legal. So why bring it up.

I like being old, if someone razzed me about it, I would shoot another one the next day, heck I might even look for one with spots on it.

First congrats on the deer! Second, i have personally seen button bucks that were just that and were never going to be anything other than a button. there was a button shot on my brother inlaws place last year that had to be at least 3-4 yrs old looking at how the teeth were ground down. some ppl frown on taking a button or spike but hey you got meat and there is "bad" dna gone from my brother inlaws lease!
