Or any other living thing and I missed. 29 yards broadside shot at a doe, I shot a little too high and she ducked my string. I knew it as soon as I hit the release.A buddy invited me out to hunt his 20 acres outside of Tolar and I was sitting under an oak tree in hood county, waiting for the feeder to go off and she walks out nibbling here and there waiting on the feeder to go off. I watched her for about 20 minutes and she stopped perfectly broadside, oblivious to me. Couldn't stand it anymore and took the shot. I don't feel like I rushed it and my form was right on, so I feel like I did everything right except I didn't aim low enough. Hopefully I've learndd my lesson and won't do that too often. Glad it wasn't a buck!

Good news is you didn't wound her and then lose her. Misses happen no matter how much you practice or hunt. Keep at it!

Its what makes us better RB. What kind of bow r u shooting? Back in the day I'd aim a little low in the case a deer jumped the string. My new bow is smoking fast but haven't shot anything with it yet. I do have a good buck that is starting to show itself during daylight hours now. Keep practicing and it will all come together.

Yeah I knew I was too high when I did it. Was dead on otherwise but just a hair to high, and when she ducked she got under it by an inch or two.

If you hunt long enough you will miss, now that one miss is out of the way go get the next one.

practice from sitting not just standing if you haven't already, it will help on those shots.

Practice sitting shooting and practice in UR gear u hunt with it will help u greatly.
Also practice till u no exacally were an arrow will hit at any yardage. Aim just a hair below center.
If there jumping UR string u may look at viabration dampening to silence the string. Just my .02

shake it off and get back out there.

I shot over a doe early in the season, misjuged the distance by 10 yards.

bummed me out but I got back out there and took a spike at 18 yards that afternoon.

You'll get one

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

You will get more opportunities don't give up. 29 yrds is a long shot for first shot at an animal imo unless you have nerves of steel. For me 18 yards is the sweet spot I love 18 yrds. 25+ is starting to get out there when the pressure is on.

I missed one Saturday morning. I rushed the shot and didn't adjust my sight for the longer distance. Add that to aiming a little low and I shot under her and my arrow hit the ground and went sailing 115 yards across the field. As others have said, it beats the heck out of making a bad hit.
I went back out Saturday evening and got a doe for the freezer.

First shot I ever took was at a doe, 17 yards quartering away and my adrenaline was rushing so bad I don't even remember the shot... I know I shot over her and luckily I didn't wound her. Since I've learned to control my nerves until after the shot. It happens, everyone misses, get back out there and smack one up

It happens, I missed my first two shots. First one was out of a elevated tree stand and my arrow clipped a limb. Second I miss judged the distance on a pig. Was about ready to pick my gun up and decided to give it another try. Next trip made three perfect shots and put one doe and two pigs down. Hooked every since!!!

Reminds me of the story of my late Uncle.

It was his first time to ever bow hunt and he didn't have a lot of experience hunting as it was. He spent the summer practicing and felt good. Ended up hunting on my dads place. He got all set up in an oak, corned a spot and within a few minutes had a 4 pointer at the pile. He was so excited, he almost couldn't even pulled the bow back. He finally got it back, took aim and shot...miss. 4 pointer startled, pranced a little, then returned. My uncle knocked another arrow, took aim and shot...miss. 4 pointer startled, pranced a little, then returned. Well, this happened 5 times and might have happened more if his quiver held more arrows. Since he was out of arrows, he climbed out of the tree and watched the 4 pointer trot off into the woods. He gathered his arrows and climbed back into the tree, slightly depressed. 30 minutes later, would you believe the 4 pointer returned? Well, he was finally able to connect and make a good clean shot.

I miss hearing my dad and his brother re-telling this story, but brings a smile to my face every time I think about it.

This is the first year using a bow for me too and I missed my first shot too. I never even checked to see if my bow was level and shot right beside deer.
Still sick about it and it won't happen again.

We all miss. One of the biggest things I had to overcome was following through with my shot. What I mean is I had to get over the excitement that I just took a shot and trying to see where I hit the deer. I was lowering the bow almost as soon as I hit the release. It taught me a lesson and I'm now better because of it. I'm embarrassed to say but it was like a 10 yard shot. I remember the vanes slapped her chest as the arrow hit the ground.

I hit my first but wasn't a great shot. I tracked her for 2.5 hrs and about 800-900 yards before finding her. Like others here have already said though, at least you didn't wound her. Keep at it and she will be back

My first bow shot was a good hit but not a pass through. Very little blood and a thunderstorm rolling in two and a half hours into tracking her and I only wished i would have completely missed. I'd prefer a miss over a lost deer or a wounded deer.

I missed my first on also. Was hunting a tree stand with two small shooting lanes. Tried to thread a needle and clipped a branch, went right over the top. I'm now more aware of where my arrow fly's vs where I'm looking in a tree stand that's in tight cover.

i would maybe cut yer distance to 20 and stick with it. 30 yards alot can happen. especially if they hear ya coming.(the whack of the bow)
by the way, you wernt that close if ya missed..if ya wounded it, it would have been a closer shot. shooting at paper aint the same as the real deal, so just because yer hitting 60 yard targets on paper..it aint the same as something trying to get out the way at 30
get back at it and dont quit.
