I put up a Herters EZ Load feeder about 4 weeks ago that I bought from Cabelas. I filled it with corn, tested the timer and set some feeding times. I went back to the property this weekend to find out it hasn't been feeding at all. It had a blown fuse. I drove 15 mi to town at night and bought the only fuses walmart had thinking they would work for the next morning's hunt. Nope. I drove back to town, 30 mi there and back, with 32V 10amp glass fuses.. Again blown fuses when I'd test the timer. The units calls for a 250v 10amp Fast Acting fuse. So I drove back into town (another 30 miles) put in the fuses and again, blown.

What the heck is wrong with this thing? I took the motor/timer box off of the hopper and am taking it back to Cabelas when I get a chance. Anyone had this issue?

I had a 12vt battery in it with a solar panel hooked up to the battery. I wouldn't think that would cause it.

First off the 32 volt 10 amp fuse is fine. It's blowing because it is loaded with too much current. Is the rotor hung up? If not the motor is bad or a wire is crimped somewhere. Take out the battery and look for pinched wire. Then take it back.

I thought the 32volt fuse would work fine since it's only a 12volt system but it was a normal blow fuse. I bought the 250v fast blow fuse to see if it made any difference before taking the feeder apart and driving 3.5 hours back to my house.

Nothing seemed to be hung up. It would count down from 10 after pressing the test button. The second it would kick on to spin the fuse would blow. I took the spinner and timer off of the hopper and tried it by itself without corn (a load) on it and it still blew the fuse.

I'm definitely taking it back. Just hadn't heard of fuse issues like this.

Sounds like either a motor issue or the transistor in the timer has shorted. take it back is the easiest fix.

There's no reason why a solar panel would cause it to do that, right?

Took the motor and timer back to Cabelas last night and they exchanged it. I talked to one of their buyers. Apparently they've had some issues with those units.
