Anyone had their gun hydro dipped/coated? How'd the end product turn out? How long has it held up to abuse?

I haven't personally had anything dipped but I do know that it doesn't last too long of you actually use the gun. Sure does look pretty but it's not very durable. I'd go with Cerakote personally!

I think durability depends on the dipper.

Unfortunately I haven't seen anyone that's done a MAX4 cerakote job.

I've had 2 Benellis dipped and rode hard. "Abuse" is subjective but I've been known to use them as a boat paddle in a pinch. I am not easy on my duck guns. Both were done in Colombus GA years ago. Don't recall the outfit but they did a great job. One in shadowgrass and one in breakup.

I watched some hydro dipping videos online and I see that most items are clear coated after dipping. I'd think a clear coat should cover you pretty well against wear and tear. Could always get a rattle can of clear and throw a couple extra coats on as well.

Throwing extra clear coat on a dipped gun wont do anything for you. If the first layer is not adhered it is going to start chipping off. Colt had it right, the durability will depend on the shop that does it. We have seen some really good work and some terrible work out there. Do your research and take it to a reputable shop and it will hold up really well for you.
Just to clear up a few things for you guys considering coating a gun. We offer both cerakote and hydro dipping. While cerakote is without a doubt a much harder coating, it does not blow away hydro graphics in terms of durability. We have done some comparison on items that were dipped vs cerakoted. The dip holds up better than most people would think when applied properly.I could have my guns done whichever way I choose and most of mine are dipped. I am like the OP and like the camo patterns.
