My youngest boy, Braden(6) shot his second deer yesterday at dusk. I knew he hit her but wasn't sure how good. I found blood and told him he needed to track her up himself. She was bleeding well. She ran about 65 yards and he found her belly up in a hole. She had no heart and very little lungs left he made a picture perfect shot at 120 yards. I was proud of him he took his time and followed the blood like an old pro. I bet he gave me 25 high fives by the time we got her loaded! Take a kid hunting there is nothing like it! I haven't squeezed the trigger this year, but been the best year ever for hunting wife and both boys have taken deer.

He's six but he is going to be seven in December. Hoping that the Cotton Cordell quote is right! "First teach a kid to love God..second teach them to love Family...Third teach them to hunt and fish and by the time they are a teenager no dope peddler will stand a chance with them" or something close to that.

I know your feeling bro . I too have a son that was 6 going to be 7 in December ( of course that was 9 years ago) who took his first with my Ruger 1 .22-250. I told him if he shoots a deer I and my hunting buddy would dance a jig for him....... Well a long horned spike came out about 85 yards and pow ..... Deer down. I am sure it was a sight seeing two grown men doin the hustle in a pasture , in the dark around a dead deer while a 6 year old sat there shakin his head at us........lol
