I am a cat buyer and it depends on what time of year you get them. I am in Breckenridge and our cats average $100 to $200 but I have offered over $300 twice so it just depends on the cat. Foxes average about $12 and coons average about $5 to $7.

Is that just for the fur or whole animal?
Do you need a special permit if you are shooting the vs trapping?

If we skin them, how should we prep or preserve them for a day or 2 (at most) before we can get them to you?

I won't start trapping or calling until probably early to mid December. Depends on weather and fur condition.

My buddy's brother usually traps West Texas professionally. He started shipping furs to Canada several years back to a auction there. His Bobcats got around $450 and Lions about $800 Coyotes $150 up. He sets 800 or more traps and was starving on the $3 K a month the ranches paid him so went to the oilfield while its there. Some of his hides ended up in Finland but I think he told me he finally got $26000 for them. I remember boxing out coons and getting a $1-$1.25 for them. Too much work for no return.

You don't need a permit to trap or hunt cats and coyotes, just a hunting license. Foxes and coons you have to have a trappers license. The prices are on unskinned animals. I will offer more for skinned animals if they are done right. When you skin them you can just put it in a gallon freezer bag and put it on ice or in the refrigerator and that will preserve it for about four days. I won't start trapping or hunting until January because cats just keep getting better until about late March.

You forgot to mention that all bobcats have to have a CITIES tag on them before they are sold. Did you buy any north tx cats last year? I heard that they werent worth trapping in north tx. $25 per cat. West and panhandle cats and yotes always bring more. Sure wish they would bring back the live market for yotes

I don't do it to make any money off of it, I do it to put gas in my truck so I can keep going calling. That's enough for me.

I furnish cites tags. As long as you don't take the cats out of texas there is no need for the tags.

Do you send yours to nafa or do u sell to a fur buyer? Nafa prices should hold around what they were last year but you never know until they start bidding. Also depends on how well you put your fur up. All fur buyers are different hard to say what each one would offer.

You say you saw a road kill coon and it was blue? How could you tell without skinning it?

I guess you could, kinda seemed like u saw one driving and made the assumption that it was blue by what you saw. Didn't say anything about cutting it. And I set a few traps to check how far along they were a week or so ago and caught 10. About half of em were nice and white leather. Big tittied sows and a few boars still had that slate look but they are real close to bein ready to go all out on em. Headed up to Amherst on the first for 10 days to stack up some yotes, then I'll jump full swing into the coon line. They should be ready by then
