Well, I have been an avid duck hunter for 10 years now and this season I was invited to join a great friend for an opening day deer hunt. This would be a trip back to the same ranch that I killed my first and only deer back in 2008. We would be hunting Sat-Wed. I was pumped!

We hunted hard Saturday and Sunday, only coming down from our stands for a couple of hours. There were some nice deer moving around but no real opportunities at a shooter. We managed to kill a couple of pigs Sunday evening.

Monday morning I found out my 16 month old daughter was going to be admitted to the hospital for dehydration after battling a stomach bug for 5 days. I knew my trip was going to be cut short, but being home was way more important. I decided to sit in the stand for 1 more hour before heading back to Katy. That's when this buck stepped out and about 45 yards. I learned exactly what buck fever really is. He barely came out from behind the mesquite and was acting very nervous and wary. He was facing my stand, slightly quartered, when I made a grunt call to get him to look. I pulled the trigger. I knew I made a bad shot. He kicked his front legs and took off.

Anyway, after 4+ hours and over .5 mile of trailing him, we found him... I couldn't believe it. We both were close to losing hope after we got within 50 yes and he took off running again. There was no way we were giving up. I'm glad my buddy Kyle is 1/16 Cherokee cuz we woulda never been able to track him otherwise. It was a long haul back to the road but we made it. Memories to last a lifetime! Anybody have any guesses on the score?

That is a dandy! Congratulations. I hope your baby girl is doing better. She's in good hands, I'm sure.

Great buck! Great story!

Please let us know how your daughter is doing! I have two daughters, 24 and 22, they are the most incredible young ladies and I am blessed to be their Dad. Cherish and protect her always! Please let us know how she's doing. I've prayed for you all.
