How far of a walk do you normally have? This is my first year hunting public. I normally hunt private but with the lack of water I have to change it up this year.

I walked about a mile last Friday. Didn't see any birds but I was all alone. Going back tomorrow and going further in.

Some of the best public spots I have hunted have been 100 yard walks or 3 mile walks.....seems like there is no in between for me. Todays hunt was about 100 yard walk.

Dang y'all are some studs 2-5 miles is that one way? Or round trip and what do you take/carry with you. I consider myself a "fast" runner and 3 miles takes 20 minutes in a dead sprint in open ground. 1-2 hour walks must be nothing
I though I was doing good to cover 0.33-0.75 miles one way

I walk only as far as I park from the water. The rest is paddling the yak. That is much easier than packing gear in.

I walk to where the birds are. i have walked 100 yds on public to 3 miles one way. I don't like walking that far regularly, but I have done it. Best when you have someone else to share the load, but that is the cost of hunting. Plus, walking in keeps me in shape carrying gear that far. Welcome to public scout scout scout Exactly. Sometimes inconvenient and costly, but its the best way to maximize your time when in the field. Scouting the day before is best, but scouting after a morning hunt (after 11 AM-to minimize disturbing the most hunters) is the most cost effective since you are already there.

Are these numbers confirmed by gps or juss saying what it feels like. Sometimes I swear getting to my truck feels like a mile and a half but that's just in the drive way.
