Ok this is what is going on over at the ranch I work and hunt, I have always seen about 25 to 35 deer on opening weekend. this year none, what is different is the other years we threw seed out on top of the hay fields to grow the hay and then used a harrow to break the top and it worked, BUT this year I did a full deep plow and harrow and over seeded it to get a better crop and it working we have oats 5 to 8" tall and green I would think it would be great for the deer. I also have a feeder set at 7 am and 5 pm. the ranches around us are doing the same things as years past, so what did I mess up to make the deer not come out in the day, I know deer are there I see the tracks but why do they come at night and not during the day?

They could just be loading up on acorns. Hard to say. I used to hunt down in Sonora and the first few weeks were a waste of time. Once it got late November, December, the deer really started to move. Especially the mature bucks.
If you've benefited from the recent rains, deer could just be taking advantage of natural browse and legumes. Lot of times, with warm temps and moisture, that's the case.

Deer like to eat young small oats, but they would still eat them. Let these acorns fall. Have you corned anything to see if they're still around?

Dude they will come, acorns and the rut.... Tall green grass.... Horrible deer hunting... I have a nice ranch in Salado we own that has sucked so far this year. Normally it's slammed full of deer. Not so much now so I know, your pain.

Sometimes there is no answer, it may have been die off because of the long term drought, or just the luck of the draw.

They're keeping our wheat plots down to 1 or 1 1/2 inch. Watched 'em last weekend - looked like a bunch of 4 legged lawn mowers!

Deer move for food, water and rut. They obviouly have plenty of the first two so when the 3rd kicks in they will show up. Need a killing frost and they will move a little better also.

Lots of green, natural groceries around right now. They will choose that over corn. Once some of the forbes die off they will be back to corn.

Yep, pretty much what everyone else is saying. I went out Monday and Tuesday, and I was disappointed. Nothing hit the feeders or the water for the last six weeks. Everything is green and water is pooled up every where. I was supposed to head back out this weekend, but I figured it would be more of the same. So in gonna go after some redfish instead and hunt a little later this month into December.
