Does anyone every shoot either of these birds with any regularity? I remember seeing some tree ducks when hunting near Katy years ago but never had a shot. I'm a collector and would love to shoot one for taxidermy. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

The only place I know of to get fulvous with a good success rate is Florida. I hunted for them in Nicaragua. We saw a few but never got a shot at one. Black bellies are a lot easier to come by. I killed some South of Dallas. They are fairly common in Florida and all the gulf side states and all through Central America.

There are alot of Black bellies down here in the Valley. They are on my hit list for this year. I heard they are good table fare as well compared to divers...

I'm from Cypress (NW Houston) and they're everywhere. I see them on power lines around the city often and see flocks of 10-20 birds.

That's great news. Do any of you guys know of a guide or anyone that would take me out for them? I'm not interested in a hot barrell hunt but rather just one or two nice ones for taxidermy. Of course, I'm willing to pay...

I've never killed one, but it has been years since I hunted the prairie/close to the city. Any one that is pretty close, I'd try there first.

Of course, I'm willing to pay... Chris Martin and bay flats lodge in seadrift have some good bbwd spots. If you want fulvous-that's FL. Look Derrick Bendell (bender) on the refuge forums. He guides weekend hunts.

I've seen Fulvous on Halls Bayou Ranch, but it's only in the summer. I think they head south pretty fast, unlike the BBWD's.

I'm working in Aransas pass and I have been seeing a lot of bbwd's. Just saw 2 good groups fly over ahead of the front.

Had a group of 4 fulvous come over us on Tuesday and we downed 3. Two were breasted out and one is in my freezer waiting to be mounted. I think I saw one in Anahuac a few years ago, but can't be sure.

We could shoot quite a few of both but usually pass on them unless it is a very slow hunt. We are located in south east Texas.

We have a lot at our ranch. they love to eat at the feeders and typically roost in the dead trees. not too bright of a bird though
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Is rodeo-cowboy/ricefarmer rodney dishman still around? Yep Rodney is still around, my brother and I are good friends with his son Josey.
