Found some land about 40 acres for sale around Dekalb in Bowie county. My question is how is the hunting around there. Never really been in this part of Texas that much. Mainly wanting to take my girls out and let them shoot a deer every now and then. Any feedback is appreciated.

ive hunted up there before, most of the land up there is beautiful, but your neighbors could be the opposite. i think the deer population is pretty good but letting the bucks get some age on them is the hard part. i saw deer the few times i hunted and have a buddy that always filled his tags up there.
if u are looking for somewhere to enjoy the outdoors and put some meat in the freezer it is real pretty country, just may be tough to get the trophies. i would definitely do some homework on the neighbors though.
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

Grew up hunting there. As has been said it depends on your neighbors. Beautiful country for sure, lots of poaching and thieves. Way to many hunters per acre.

What there is poaching in East Texas?
I've considered looking at land up there too but I just hear too many bad stories. Great looking country.

My young brother has 200 acres off 67, Older brother had 350 in Red River county off 259 and my dad lives on about 50 acres South on Dekalb and has access to another 30 from the guy that be bought from. Dad retired from Dallas PD 27 years ago. It has been non stop problem for all of them with poaching on their place as well of folks killing deer all year long. My younger brother was told to get off his own land, not long after getting it. Good luck

its not as bad as it sounds poaching is every where in texas just better known in east texas mainly because of population ive hunted all portions of texas and have delt with tresspassing illegal hunting poaching mostly by landowners because they can, is the usual reason.Actually caught my land owner poaching in march in menard county while i was turkey hunting he said he had family coming,I said i need my lease money back Thankyou. He said this is my land i do with it what and when I want to and I quote. Not the first time Ive heard this statement,Fact is we need more wardens for the money we pay this state. For the most part Quality Texas hunting as a whole, low fence that is,Is slowly becoming non existing.I lived and hunted from carthage to texarkana and its the same from Childress to Brownsville,Its boils down to what you can tolerate.
