of the bag...you aren't ever going to get him back in.
I've been hunting a little public lake the last few years that was an absolute well kept secret...
I didn't hunt it last year because I had a private place that was loaded up with ducks...
Went out yesterday and there were 6-7 groups on this little lake that I've never seen more than 2 on. I only recognized one group of guys that I had seen out there previously...got to talking to them and they said someone must have let the secret out last season because it was ridiculously crowded the entire season.
All the new guys were skybusting every single group of birds...had probably 500-700 ducks want to come into the lake but if they got below 200' they were getting shot at...on top of that it was like being at the orchestra...I don't think 3 of the groups ever put down their calls...don't know how someone can blow that damn much on a duck call and not pass out.
Either way, we killed some ducks and so did the other group of old guys. I don't think a single group of the idiots shot a bird. They sure ruined easy limits for everyone though.
I'll get off my soap box now and go find another little secret spot.

Come on...guys here say naming lakes is no big deal Sorry you got bit, but running of mouths and posting on the internet is a sure way of killing a good duck hole.

I made the mistake of taking someone to a public spot 2 years ago mainly because I needed a hunting partner that day. Last year he brought a new group of people every week and would get weird when I saw him down there on times when I wasn't invited in his group. We finally got into it when I called him out on bringing several new people to public spots. He just doesn't understand how quickly public can get overrun

You can't keep a place from public any longer. There is not one piece of unscouted water left in this country. Not one!

They should raise the public fee to $300 a year and allow you to pay with food stamps, just like what they do with toll tags to keep traffic away. Case resolved.

You doing public this year Judd? havent talked to you in a while... Nope...I got my belly full of that. Decided I would retire prior to going back to the mess. I will hunt LA some with buddies and hunt with guides before I go back to public. I try to use duck hunting as a therapy away from the real world and job...I can't do that on public, to many self centered richards in this world now days. Still looking for a good lease...plan to look at one this coming weekend. We'll see?

I think this one got ruined the old fashioned way. I've never seen it mentioned on this forum - nothing comes up in a google search either. It was a damn good secret. Someone mentioned DD earlier - hilarious thing is - two of the groups were younger (high school age or just a little older) kids...all four of them had on the exact same DD hoodies, DD hats, face painted up green like one of the DD guys, and drab green beanies. and lanyards of duck commander calls and brand new academy waders. And wanna be beard fuzz to boot. Oh well - I figured the secret would get out sooner or later..it was a good little lake while it lasted. Still will be good this season...just more work getting there early. I will say most of everyone set-up reasonably and not on top of each other - which is hard to do given the size of the lake.

I've been preaching to Topwaters for years about keeping their mouths shut......Its not so funny when the chickens come home to roost and you get the green weeney.
I can't tell you how many people whom I've only just met begin to blab about hunting spots to me.....stuff they should have kept to themselves. I can guarantee you that if you give me any info whatsoever, I will exploit it to the fullest and come out the winner.
I laugh when I read how its good having new guys in the sport.....how's that one working out for ya?
Here's a few simple but absolute rules to follow:
1) Keep your mouth shut.
2) Don't take new Topwaters
3) Don't post pics
4) Lie to everyone you know

so much complaining about new hunters. We were all new once and i guarantee all of us on here sky busted a time or two...or watched a show that got us all excited to go try something new that had much more to it than the show let on. Keep teaching people the right ways as much as possible and go out and have some fun hunting ducks already.

There are no secret spots. Shotguns at 7am tell everything.
Hunt a "secret spot" twice and your boom scouted for sure, next time there are 10 guys in your spot at midnight.
The answer is water, then you can get away from them. Just not enough this year yet...

Life is not always fair. There are no secret public spots, if one person knows, eventually others will know about it. You don't own public hunting areas, every Tom, Dick and Jane are entitled to hunt there just like you do.

I don't think 3 of the groups ever put down their calls...don't know how someone can blow that damn much on a duck call and not pass out. I had a similar guy by me in Garwood that would not stop with the speck call. I seriously thought he was going to hyperventilate. Meanwhile we got easy speck and duck limits with limited calling. Some people just don't get it.
