I got a really nice buck yesterday evening and found it within a few hours. I have him gutted and hanging. Temps over night here were high 30s low 40s. I don't want to lose the meat on this deer but my processor is several hours away and I was going there tomorrow. What can I do to keep the meet good with expected high temps in the low 60s till tomorrow? Thanks for any advice!

You should be good if you out a bag of ice in it and turn it into the wind so it will keep it cool a lot of people don't realize how long meat will stay good as long as it is cool like that

I've heard of guys freezing 2 and 3 liter bottles and putting them in the carcass as well.

Quarter the deer and put it on ice is the best solution.

if you can't quarter it and ice it
keep the sun off of it and try to cover loose in burlap and keep it damp
that makes like evaporative cooling effect

I would most definitely recommend quartering him up and place in an ice chest. Wouldn't take a chance in 60 degree weather .

No same grinder I just don't want to have to drive that far to collect my meat when it's done.

That's great...I really wasn't trying to be a d*ck just hate to see venison wasted. I'd take to an unknown processor before I'd risk losing it...or I'd cut it all up myself and put in bags over ice for processing later. Anyhow, glad you got it handled...

At 70 it will last up to 4 hr and at 60 you'll be good for about 8 to 10 hr add ice like I said and not worry about it

It was in Bowie and at that point in the picture I had been walking through the woods for 45 minutes to an hour tracking him with a jacket on. So yeah at that point I was a little warm. It was 34 degrees at 4:30 that following morning.

You can skin and quarter a deer in just slightly more time than it takes to field dress.

Next time quarter that bad boy into an ice chest and you won't have to worry about what the weather does.

Glad it worked out for you, nice buck up

Thanks! Yeah I will never have that issue again. From now on they will be skinned, quartered, and thrown on ice.

Congrats on the first buck. Not to argue the point but I have heard that as long as the temp. is 60 degrees or cooler you will be okay. Would really hate to lose a deer due to the weather.
