We didn't do much good either but saw a bunch of ducks which was encouraging. We saw tons of 30+ teal flights. We shot 5, but only got ahold of 3... I hate wounding em. Bring on the cold weather!
I have a dog and one still got away from us.
Need to get a dog.
Touche...It still happens. Sux

it was a shoveler hen Ive never shot one before. Are they really that bad to eat? The meat didn't look or smell different from the other ducks I shot.

Hey sethfish, around what ball park did the taxi charge you to get your spoonie mount? I don't really think they are horribly ugly though. I'll try puting it in some gumbo.

Launched the boat at 12ish friday night. Had the place all to myself till abotu 430, 5. Guys came in, and there is room for another group. but they set up facing me. Got peppered all morning. Not talking about falling steal either.
We ended up with 14 birds, 1 lost bird dove as it hit the water. Mostly teal, and Gadwall. But all hens.. I did not see one drake. I had a wedding Saturday night, and after zero sleep Friday night I decied against waking up, and going Sunday.

Congrats , Its an awesome feeling when you have the birds working your spread. This weekend I had the biggest flock work my spreads that I have ever had, AND they came back for a second round.
Must have been 25 or so Gadwalls in the whole group. Circled the spread 3 times before dropping in the first time. Dropped 3. Waited 5 minutes, they came back and dropped 4.
Thats the thing about life, nobody gets out alive.

Hunting the prairie west of Houston, we shot mainly teal. We ended the day 4 short of a 7 man limit and had 3 Specks to go along with our ducks. The geese did not want to work at all as there was no wind.
Saturday afternoon one of my fellow lease members joined me for an afternoon of fishing around Matagorda. We boxed 12 trout from 17" - 26.5". I wish I could've released the 26.5" trout, but she wouldn't revive.
Then to top it all off.....TEXAS TECH beat Texas!!!! Wreck 'Em Tech!!!
Sunday - It was quite a bit slower and we ended the day with 20 birds, mainly teal, for 7 guys and 2 Specks.

Thanks!
I don't know if i could have that much luck on a large flock like that!
It was truely awesome to see these teal come in from across the lake.
It really amazed me because they flared at my decoys, but then I hit the call again and they 180 degree turned right back to my spread.
and by that time I was feed cacklin, and had them wanting in my spread real bad!

2 birds. 1 gwt drake and one hen. had a group of about 20 come outta no where and lock up while i was sitting around not paying attention. they flared when i tryed to grab my gun and blurted out "Oh Chit!" i guess i have to work on keeping still when im caught by surprise.
I like spoonie, his humor is dryer than my duck lease.

25 grey ducks in less than 15 minutes. This is what I found while scouting two days before.

My wife and I got 6. GWT and Gadwalls. Picked up a little too soon cuz a group of teal came in when picking up the decoys and another when we were leaving. There was some wiffing going on too, but it was a good time overall, and my dog was happy to be chasing ducks again.

My buddy and I drove up to the DFdub area late Firday night and met up with Fishdog from the forum. The water was super low of course and we ended up walking the boat about 200yds in knee deep mud and only a few inches of water. The lily pads that were there in teal season were all wilted and dieing so they didn't give much cover. We just put the blind up halfway and crouched down in the boat. We had some barneys come about 4am in a huge pontoon boat blind thing that was absolutely ridiculous, about 6 dozen decoys all thrown out within about a 10 yd radius, and the kazoo of course. They set up easliy within 150 yds from us, and not only that but directly in front of us. We would have done pretty good if it weren't for them. We had a group of about 15 wigeon circle us once only to land about 200 yds away out in the middle. Then we had a group of about 20 spoonies(Garrett don't get a hard on now!!!) come directly at us over the tree line and circled around to see the other guys. They too landed out in the middle of the lake. Later on we had a pair of wigeons come in and my buddy made about a 75 yd shot on one of 'em for his first big duck(he shot some teal in teal season). All in all it was fun and we got a good laugh at those other guys, and I met another fellow THF member.
Sunday was a bust. I don't know what happened, but we didn't see a bird one. But we walked in instead of taking the boat so it wasn't quite as much work. We got there at about 2:30-3 and made a nice blind in the water with some dead and broken limbs we found. I thought we were going to be all alone till about 5:30 rolled around 2 more groups came walking in. I must give credit to both because when we flashed them off. One group went on around the bank about 1/2 mile, and the other in the opposite direction also about 1/2 mile. None of us fired a shot but I just wanted to thank those guys in case they see this. I honestly can't say if I would have walked as far as they did. It was way more than enough. Too bad there weren't birds though.

Went out again this morning.. Was calling at the wind for a while..stood up and walked around behind a tree then turned around and there was a duck landing in my decoys! Swung through and dropped it (looked like a pintail or widgeon because had alot of white on it with a dark head) WELL it was crippled and flopping around like crazy, so i was putting more shells in it. meanwhile it got up right and start swimming out to the middle of the lake! Wasn't much I could do after that. It makes me think kinda hard about getting a dog or a small boat though eventualy.
