Last night me, my wife and our 5 year daughter went to our land owners house to hang out and when hunting came up i was informed after 5 years of being on this lease children are no longer allowed because of another members kid. So, if my kid is not allowed then i refuse to step foot on his property. My wife and our daughter love to sit in the deer stand with me and i feel that it is a very good thing to teach them early just like i was by my father. Am i wrong for walking off the lease? I did not break any contract agreement. I am just a very involved father and want my kid to enjoy the outdoors with her parents.

Not wrong at all. If I couldn't take the kids, I wouldn't hunt period.

I trust people more if they have kids with them.

Truly sad that this happened because of something you had no control over. I would question the owner, if it was agreed that kids are allowed how can he pull this a week before the opener. I guess he can do what he wants since he owns the place but just isn't right.

That's a tough one, I would go ahead and finish the season out. Try to find a place you can take her this year as well. Then, I'm out. Leases costs so much these days I could not afford to ditch the place after paying. Good luck.

ditto

gotta wonder why he's punishing the group versus that one individual with an out of control kid. Sounds like the LO needs to find his balls and kick the problem off the lease

My kid goes everywhere with us. Last night when i got in the car after a very heated discussion with the land owner my daughter started crying her eyes out and when i asked what was wrong she said "Daddy, why cant i go to the ranch anymore" that made me even more mad about the situation.

The other kid is 11 years old and is one of those kids that just wants to sit in the camp house and watch TV and complain the whole time about being there and the land owner and his wife got irritated and said no more kids. They assured me that it is nothing our kid did but they have to make the rule for everyone.

You're not wrong and the landowner isn't wrong either. Assuming you didn't have a written contract stating your children are allowed out there, of course.

Their land, their rules. Your money, your decision.

I'd go and get my limit, whatever it is as fast as I could, including turkey if you have any before you leave. The landowner on my last lease got weird on us and essentially tore up a lease agreement that he wrote. He was always one of those guys that wanted something and my buddy and I are GCs so we had all kinds of stuff made for the place that he never used,2 - 16' gates for example, so when we left we took all the stuff he hadn't used.

Are the other lease members on your side? Maybe get them all together and rid the lease of the real problem rather than punish everyone b/c of one kid.

So, one kid ruins it for all the others that actually WANT to be there? That LO is a chump if he lets this go down this way. Wow.

I'd still go and take my kids if the money was paid and that was not stated before you paid then he's in the wrong !
How's he going to know if they hunt or not or is he saying they can't even be on the land at all?

You didn't lose your lease....you gave it up.

You could still hunt but you have chosen not to do so.

If you can't hunt without your family/kid....it is your choice.

Landowner has the right to set the rules and you follow or leave.

Do you have kids old enough to hunt with you?

LO is wrong, especially if you have a contract. Even if you don't he shouldn't be changing rules in the middle of the year after he has taken your money. It would be different if he said that "next year, no kids".

So many things wrong here don't know where to start

First, you did not lose your lease. You elected not to hunt.

Second never heard of anyone getting into a "heated argument" with the landowner and have it turn out well. Did you really think getting heated with the landowner would work?

Does the LO lease to a group, or a bunch of individuals? If a group, then I would have suggested to the LO address his problem as a group - namely telling the one parent that the specific problem kid was banned.

If leased to individuals, then the LO should address the problem with that individual.

It sounds like you have/had some sort of personal relationship with LO since you were hanging out at his house. I would address the issue of kids with him WITH MY DAUGHTER PRESENT. For two reasons. First, to show that your child was different and respectful. Secondly, to have to the child hear the ban from the LO directly. Perhaps they would hesitate or make an exception when having to explain to child directly.

Finally, if you really made the decision to leave and the circumstances were untenable - you should have just quietly, discreetly gone anyway with your daughter. The worst thing that could have happened is that you would have been asked to leave - which you were going to do anyway.

Lastly, things like this are never best to be challenged or confronted directly or immediately. Let a day or two pass, then think about a strategy to reapproach the issue with the LO.

LO's, generally, are older folks with long years experience with kids. They know a single bad apple doesn't mean the whole bunch is spoiled - and know that parents come into play.

Just having a single kid that doesn't want to go out in the field doesn't sound right as to the whole story behind the sudden ban on kids. Sounds like there might be more to the story - so I would be hesitant to condemn the kid, LO, lessors, or parents until I knew the whole story.

I did give up my lease, i am not going to be apart of something my kid can not be a part of. I am a strong believer in being a huge part in my kids life. I am 26 years old and one of the most involved parents you will see. I love my daughter more than anything and want her to grow up enjoying the outdoors like i did.
