Out in the blind with son and second daughter, had action from first light and still have a yearling at the feeder as I am typing. Got to blind and feeder went off almost right away (gotta check that time). Went down and threw some extra corn near the food plot and feed pen, then by the time I got back in blind and got set up we had deer...
Three deer were in the pen but couldn't see what they were for a while. Finally saw two doe and a young buck. These guys have been regulars as one of the doe has a bent ear, easy to ID. A short while later another buck walked up. He was just barely inside the ears but I am glad he wasn't as close as I initially thought cuz my son was ready to let lead fly. After the three left, the fourth stayed for a while and I tickled the bones a little and he responded by high tailing it out of there... But just as he ran off I had a yearling without a mama literally run into the pen. The yearling has been there for a long while. Must be really hungry.

Haven't had a chance to get the thread started until just now, but will be out all day. Will keep this updated.

Back in the blind. Wind is stirring And some weather to the north. Hoping to catch something moving after the weather rolls through.

About to go to the evening blind. Have had good activity in the food plot around 6-7 so I am hoping for some action. My daughter wants her brother to whack anything, she just wants to help clean it...

I may let him whack a doe tonight if the bucks play hard to get.

Just had a small storm roll through and it seems like things are less stormy on the back side so I am thinking I need to get in the blind sooner rather than later.

Will keep you posted and hopefully post pics of something tonight.

Here is a pic of a yearling buck that was hanging at the feeder a long time this am, could barely tell he had nubbins

Hard to take pics through binos, at least I find it hard smile

Just started sprinkling. Have been watching the boomers develop all around us and now it appears they are upon us. Still have about 70 minutes left to hunt so I am not dropping all hope, but it is not looking as pretty as this am.

Ok, the rains let up a bit and as expected deer show up. Reality was it was right close to what I call the "magic hour", that half hour before sunset up to twillight, and on my lease I actually get short-changed more often than not by about 10 minutes...I digress...,

So rain lets up a bit and it was about 30 minutes prior to sunset and my son sees 6 doe coming toward us. Well as they are coming the rain starts to pick up a little again but the doe still progress toward the feeder. They never make it though as they find my corn pile outside the pen and stop, all six of them lined up in a row, all quartering toward us, under a slight ridge showing only their bodies. I wasn't happy with the shot presented as I was worried about gut shooting or ruining too much meat so we held on shooting. I kept telling my son as soon as the one he was sighting turned for a broadside shot he could take it , but I was none the happier that it didn't happen as I had no inclination to gut a deer in the rain. Anyway, about that time it started lightning pretty good and the deer got spooked and ran off. We still had an hour till dark so we waited on the rain to stop and it did. Within a few more minutes we saw two doe walk out from a different place (they could have been part of the original 6 but not sure). These girls were a little spooky right from the get go but they did eventually make their way around for the same quartering shot the first set did. Again told my son if his shot was there he could take it. My daughter was excited, I was happy to have the opportunity and my son was ready... Or so he thought. He got the yips and pulled the shot and we watched the doe run off. Bummer. Hopefully he learned something from the miss.

But overall a very fun day and interesting to see the deer moving during the rain and after, as many on here have said. Saw 13 deer, mostly doe which was interesting since most of my pics over the last month have been almost all bucks.

Will be back at it next weekend for opener, but I will have my gun too wink

Yea rain has been an issue all day it seems like for alot of people. Gutting in the rain isnt the most pleasant thing to do. Be looking forward to next weekend.

Ill be in East Tx!

Back in the stand this am. Had a deer at the feeder when we got
Here, thermal imager helps with that a lot, but we were able to sneak in undetected. Deer never looked up from eating. Then we had some cows decide they wanted to be around us...and scared that deer off. As the deer was moving through the food plot I could just get enough light to see he was a shooter....bummer it wasn't 15 minutes later.

We are now waiting for the cows to move on. The deer have been hitting the feeder around 8 am, so hoping for some action soon, but it may be a long sit today.

Well, I was only out Saturday until about 11. No deer to speak of, although I heard a couple shots in what sounded like neighboring properties, then a siren type sound started going off. It didn't help my cause one bit.

Looking at my cameras, I had buck-a-palooza going on Friday morning...no fewer than three shooter bucks and a couple smaller ones scrapping in the background...the shooters were all new to the cameras. Friday evening I had lots of action at that set too, another new shooter buck and lots of action all night, but by the am it was gone. Just the opposite of what I would have expected given the new moon and cool weather.

Food plots are still getting hammered. Taking the browse pressure ok though and looked good Saturday. Turnips are coming in nicely and wheat is doing well. Had a sounder of hogs come through Halloween and browsed a little but didn't root the plots up, so that was a relief.

Headed out Monday for an evening hunt. Will keep this thread running through the season hopefully.

Back in the stand with BIL, gonna shoot anything legal as this is a meat hunt...

Hoping for a nice big bodied buck, but will take anything to get the season started.

Wind is blowing and temp is mild, low 60's right now. Partial cloudy with no rain in sight. Have some scent out hoping to catch something looking for love in all the wrong places.

Will let you know what happens...

Man am I on a streak...nothing again. Sat at the wrong stand, although the stand with the deer tonight was not correct for wind today, so chances are had I been in the stand that saw deer tonight we wouldn't have seen deer anyway.

Gonna be off for a bit, gonna try and hit it again in a couple weekends and stay for more than one hunt next time.

Still getting lots of night time action, so hopefully the temps will be a little cooler next time out and the deer will be a little more day time active.

Back in the stand, Veterans Day and hoping for a veteran buck to walk out and make a mistake in front of me today. So far the woods are still, first light just coming though...

Getting ready to hit the woods again in clay county. Looking at pics last night I would definitely say things are heTing up in the woods out here. Seeing some nice full necks and some doe tending. Targets number 1 for my son and me are still alive and well, so hoping for a good weekend! Going to be out today and tomorrow, hopefully the big boys come to play.

Just had a yearling 4 pt walk within bow range of us, was really cool. He eventually scented us and didn't even care....looking for love.

He circled the feeder and then went through the food plot with nose down in search.

On a side note, my BIL said the cows somehow got into my other feed pen just this am. I told him go down and shoot them with a BB gun. Waiting for a status report there. Dang cows!!

Well, tonight's hunt was uneventful all the way til the end. Had a probable legal buck walk out right as legal time expired. Then had a coyote walk out just after the buck and he checked out a coon we had shot after the am hunt.

Hoping for some more movement or something legal tomorrow. Going to hunt all day again.

It seems to be that way right now. Full moon after the couple really cold days.
