I thought this article would be a good read for those on a mission to select a shotgun for turkey hunting. Check it out and make your comments. Here is link: How to choose the right shotgun for this turkey season.

There are good points in that article.
Camo is ok. I think the most important thing is to pattern your gun at the distance you will be shooting and select the choke that gives you the density you want.
Then call 'em in and "BANG".

My favorite method for turkeys is Ram 1500 at about 60. Gets em every time.
I hunted last year with a just basic walnut stock and blued barrel gun. Camo is good but not nessesary. Movement is what they pick up on more than anything. Like donswin said. The key is to pattern your gun. You want to know how your gun is throwing them pellets.
We interrupt this marriage for hunting season.

I shot mine with a 36in barrel single shot Ward Texas Ranger this year at about 20yds. It doesn't have a fantastic pattern for sure. Knowing how the gun shoots is very important.

People think that Benelli is the number one producer in the 'turkey gun business'.Each one of those can deal with these fine birds: M2, Super Black Eagle II, Vinci, Super Vinci.

I've got a Benelli and a Mossberg 935. Use the Mossy more, cuz I don't feel as bad getting it wet and dirty. That 3 1/2 patterns well, and reaches out there.

"Dot" type sights have become very popular with many turkey hunters over the years. There are basically 2 syles, open and tube type. Many now feature a choice of 2 colors, red and green and some offer a choice of several reticles.
I started using dot sights many years ago when introduced the Bushnell Halo sight. That sight started the revolution and soon there were many similar sights on the market. Over the years they have become smaller, lighter and less expensive. All of those sights are much better now than most of them were just a few years ago and they are much less expensive.
I prefer the open style over the tube style but that's just a matter of personal choice since many shooters really like the tube type. I also like the Burris SpeedBead sight. The mounting system is unique and allows you to look right through it naturally when you mount your gun.
I like any sight mounted as low as possible and the lighter the better for me.
Lastly, I like the Truglo brand of sights. They are well made, reliable and carry an excellent warranty. Their open type are some of my favorites.
I hope that helps some.
Thanks, Anthony Cole

I use a Mossberg 500 12 ga pump with an extra full Cabela's choke. Winchester XX #4 Turkey Loads. Dropped a big tom at 46 yards last spring with no problem!

I had good patterns at 35yds with a full choke and the Fed flight control wad.

I also use a 20 gauge like was mentioned in the article. It just fit much better. It's actually a youth model but it handles quickly for me.
