We have an opportunity for a motivated, self-starting individual to manage a 3,000 acre family owned and operated hunting ranch near Leakey, Texas. If you have dreamed of running an active hunting and breeding operation in the hill country, but not had access to the land, this may be the opportunity for you to consider. Operation runs a limited number of commercial hunts annually, maintains an active game breeding operation, and periodically hosts faith-based summer camps to introduce youth to the outdoors. For the entrepreneurial candidate, opportunities to grow both the hunting and breeding operation, and share in revenue growth provided to the ranch.

Fundamental responsibilities will include:
• Ranch upkeep, including maintenance of fences, roads, watering systems, feeders, blinds, ranch equipment, and maintaining living areas in presentable and functional condition.
• Animal husbandry – Ensure all animals are well-fed, watered, and potential health issues are addressed promptly. Periodic capture of animals in breeding facilities for general preventative care, separation, and sale.
• Creation and carrying out of a game management plan, to include native and exotic species, as well as range and forage management.
• Guiding & Hunt Management – Successful candidate will act as head-guide for the property, identifying target and off-limits animals in alignment with game management plan and work with contract or outfitter guides as needed to ensure harvest guidelines are followed. Position will also be accountable for ensuring the hunting clients have a fun, safe, and hopefully successful hunt while on the ranch – this includes ensuring feeders are full, blinds and living quarters are in good shape, ranch rules and safety requirements are followed, and helping with game care and recovery.

Additional growth opportunities with aligned owner interests for:
• Hunt advertising, booking, and client relations
• Live animal breeding and sales

We are looking to establish a long-term relationship built on trust, providing the best possible fair-chase experience for our clients, and a mutual interest in stewardship of the land.

Successful candidate will be expected to live on the ranch in housing provided as part of compensation package. Spouse and minor children welcome of course, and a trusting relationship between owners and immediate family is expected. Some potential for spousal income thru maintenance of hunting camps, cleaning, cooking, etc.

Required Experience:
• Previous ranching experience required
• Hunt Guiding (Rifle and Bow)
• Client Relations
• Heavy Equipment Operation
• Basic ranch equipment maintenance and repair
• Hoofed livestock husbandry

Preferred Experience/qualifications:
• Wildlife management degree
• Game immobilization, capture and transport
• US FWS CBW & Cull and Take and TPWS MLD Permit Application and Maintenance
• Management of seasonal or temporary labor

Pay: Commiserate with experience
Base Pay + Additional revenue opportunity thru game sales, and guiding fees/tips, etc.

Housing & Utilities included as part of compensation package.

If Interested please send resume and references to Rog7mag@gmail(dot)com or contact poster via this site.

Got it all but the livestock husbandry experience. This is the type of thing I'm looking to do after I retire. In 8 months.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

It's not how you fall, It's how you get up.
