I live in Michigan and I am an avid small game hunter, waterfowler and collector. I've seen the Chachalacha while duck hunting in Mexico but we weren't able to hunt or shoot one. I'm very interested in hunting them in one of the four counties in Texas where it is legal. I'm only interested in shooting one or two that I can bring home for taxidermy. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. I understand that it's a waste of time to hunt them on public land and should focus on private land. I'm certainly willing to pay well for a guided hunt or the privelege to hunt on your land. I really appreciate your help. Greg

Did a google search and went 5 pages deep. Usually if there are any ranches or outfitters offering searches it will come up by then - no luck on this search "chachalaca hunting texas".

Found this which mentions public hunting lands open for hunting the bird at the bottom of the article.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/regulations/outdoor-annual/2013-2014/animal_listing has four counties with seaons for the birds. Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr, and Willacy.

Also might want to post in the guides and outfitters forum here. I know some of the people there are in the Valley and south Texas area.

If you play a Sly and The Family Stone album backwards they give the best areas to boom chachalacha.

Thanks for the advice Brad! I've done exactly as you've suggested. I can't believe how hard this is. Greg

Pm sent yesterday but my buddy Eric Schmidt, also a collector and taxidermist has done some chacalaca hunting with good success right around the border. His contact info is all on his website at http://www.aliveagainrecreations.com/. He might be able to help you out or point you in the right direction. He's always going somewhere in search of rare birds so I'm sure he will know someone that can help
