okay guys so here is my situation.a friend of mine has some land around the area and she never uses it.there is about 50 acres that she owns. She told us we are more than welcome to use for land to hunt on. This place does not have feeders or stands but the lady said there is a healthy deer population on the land.we are thinking about setting feeders out this weekend.any chance those dear will come to the feed her this year? what are the best steps to make it produce within the coming years? she said there are duck, dove, deer and hogs. sounds like a good opportunity for us to get some hunting in this year.

With a place that size it will depend on what the neighbors are doing for feeders and hunting pressure. If they feed the deer will know what a feeder is. The amount of feeders will depend on how thick the place is for its size.

The deer will find your feeders. Don't spend a lot of time in the area, just enough to figure out best spot(s) wind direction from stand(s) and to put up a feeder or two. Save the campfires until after season is over unless you have a special situation, edge of the property, downwind of property of course.

Google Earth is a great tool for scouting a property without disturbing anything. You can see things on there that you can't see by walking around. First thing I would do it look at it on GE and try to make a plan and then go out there and execute it. Good luck.

You should get a few deer right away especially if you can find a trail or funnel area. The longer you leave the feeder up the more deer will get used to it.

if it hasnt been hunted before, i would go with a popup-blind and watch the the fence rows or power lines....with all the pressure around you the deer are very comfortable there...wouldnt feed till next year.....
My lease was not hunted from 1997 till 2008 when i found it...we shot 4 135-140class bucks 1st season in north bosque county on 150 acres

I'd start feeding immediately. No reason to wait till next year.

If the neighbors are big hunters and feed regularly, I'd bet you'll have deer hitting your feeder within a day. If it's been a sanctuary for a long time, there's a good chance they bed down on your place.

Good luck.

If there is any water on the plce or a game trail to it nearby, I'd hang a Deer block from a tree limb a few yards off the trail, and bring a ladder stand in to get my scent off the ground rather than do a pop up. A new feeder may push them out of the sanctuary bedding area that this place prolly is. JMHO
