Lubbock is about the only locale where you're gonna experience legitamet big Canada hunts in Texas. Yes, there are birds around in other areas (Texoma, parts of East TX, Amarillo), but you're best bet is in the Lubbock area with the right guide.

Most of the geese in that area are cacklers I guided up there for 3 years and we killed quite a few, a lot of people requested to shoot some big birds and we'd save fields close to town for them. So with the right outfitter you could smack some greaters up there.
I'm with GK because I like salty old dudes.

Lubbock is your best bet for big geese in Texas. About 15% of the birds we get are Heavies. Different ball game though with big geese...Heavies generally don't hang with squeakers...They are anti-social and don't like hanging out with 3000+ little geese. 200-300 big geese in a field is a hunt. Once lesser find them, they will find new fields. They come out in small groups(5-20birds). Usually won't see them feeding as much in the evenings. We run 8-10 doz decoys at most, spread out the clients, make family group, and dig in. Put out a lesser spread(30+doz decoys) and your chances go down of killing them, doesn't mean you won't, just means your chances go down. With a lesser spread they usually skirt the spread and set off to the side or behind by about 100 yards.. Best time to get them is early in the season or late in the season. They aren't early risers either. They can be really stupid sometimes and they can flip you off at 100 yards... Good luck!

We got a lot of big honkers here but they are very unpredictable. If you want to shoot geese book with Brian.
