Trying to remember when I even killed this deer!

Been eating mine all year. Honestly, after a year, I'm iffy.

I've got elk meat form Oct. 2011....it tastes just fine. Just depends on how its packaged.

I have kept it for 2-3 yrs if it is wrapped double and no holes in the wrapping. Just open it up and smell it. If it smells freezer burnt it will taste that same way. You can try to soak it in a little bit of vinegar and water to take some of the taste out of it but not all if it is really bad.

It's in those meat packaging plastic bags that twist at the top with a tie.

I killed the deer on the last day of season (I think Jan 2) 2011.

I have eaten hamburger in those plastic bags that old. If it has tears in it just throw out the portions around the holes. It should still be ok.

Just peeked inside. Still looks red through the butcher paper. Smells like a butcher shop.

USDA says 4 months on ground beef, I have gone nearly 10x that and I'm still kickin.

If it is vacuum sealed it could easily go past 2 years. For ground meat in the tube bags, I have gone a year and a half many times. It is more a matter of when the smell/taste changes, rather than a certain time span.

i've eaten ground beef that was 3 years old, tasted fine. if the freeze is deep enough and packaged well, meat can last a long time.

I have steaks and ground deer still from 2009 and it eats just fine.

As long as you don't have freezer burn it should be okay.

It doesn't last long enough to find out in my house to find out. We rarely have any game left by the time the next season comes around. I'm cooking the last package of 3 deer from last season tonight. It's chili meat. I'm glad I got tha hog 2 weeks ago, meat was getting scarce.
