If they said they were going to purchase it for you then yes the pawn shop could have turned it down. Have them go back without you and purchase it and make sure they say it's for the one doing the paperwork.

a. Are you the actual buyer of the firearm(s) listed on this form? Warning: You are not the actual buyer if you are acquiring the firearm(s) on behalf of another person. If you are not the actual buyer, the dealer cannot transfer the firearm(s) to you.

I don't always shoot deer, but when I do, I prefer B&C's. I don't always shoot ducks, but when I do, I prefer banded ducks.

It's clearly written in the law. Maybe your parents can go back another day without you there.

hey a.h. you've got everything ahead of you, so don't sweat the details. when you get to be 21 years of age and if you've toed the line and stayed out of trouble you can go nuts like the rest of us did and spend the bulk of your pay on firearms. then you'll get older and realize you can do the job with a few select firearms and spend time working with those and get to be a skilled marksman. goats like me don't have as much time left, so be glad for what you have. you'll get there. be patient.

The law is a open to interpretation but if your buying the gun for a member of your household they should sell it to you. The law recognizes legitimate gifts but the law doesn't necessarily recognize a change in ownership until you move out. I had that discussion at Cabelas when I bought a pistol for my daughter. She's about to move out but is now 22 so can legally own it.

If you are not the actual buyer, the dealer cannot transfer the firearm(s) to you. Read the instructions for the question... You are also the actual buyer / transferee if you are legitimately purchasing the firearm for a third party as a gift. It is perfectly legal for a parent to purchase a firearm for their child's use.

Not sure how the law was back then, but when I was 13 or so (Im 29 now), my dad and I walked into a pawn shop looking for me a new deer rifle. And we walked out with a Winchester Model 70 .270. Dad made it known that he was buying it for me, and I even held & shouldered the gun and everything.

You also have to figure in that the people working behind the counter at those places are not always the sharpest tool in the shed.

I have heard of that happening at Walmart. Yup tried to buy some 22 ammo as a kid they said no. Went and got dad, they still said no because dad was just gonna give it to me what a crock. After I turned 18 walmart still refused to sell me 22 ammo on occasion because it potentially could be fired in a pistol

I bought some .22 ammo at walmart just the other day and they asked me "are you planning to use this in a handgun?" It was a required question from their system aparently, but I thought it was pretty pointless to ask someone.

straight from the penal code: Sec. 46.06. UNLAWFUL TRANSFER OF CERTAIN WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person:
(2) intentionally or knowingly sells, rents, leases, or gives or offers to sell, rent, lease, or give to any child younger than 18 years any firearm, club, or illegal knife;
(c) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under Subsection (a)(2) that the transfer was to a minor whose parent or the person having legal custody of the minor had given written permission for the sale or, if the transfer was other than a sale, the parent or person having legal custody had given effective consent.
So it is not actually illegal to sell a long gun to a minor if written permission from the legal guardian is obtained.
