Question for you guys. I am thinking about using my T/C Encore pistol in 6.8 SPC for hog and deer hunting, question is , will a 110gr v-max hand load work on hogs and deer with the proper shot placement? On deer I would be aiming for the heart lung area, and on hogs behind the ear.

Sure...I know folks who have killed both with a .22 Mag...not advisable, but it has been done.
You're main consideration as you stated was/is shot placement.

I've shot a 175lb boar on the run at over 400 yards with a 110 vmax . (All I had) it worked . Also shot a axis doe in the neck at 100 and she was DRT , and a axis spike at 80 yards shoulder shot he went maybe 20-30 yards and dropped

I hear v-max works on hogs, but SST's are probably better all around. The better pentrating bullets for the 6.8 are the TTSX and Nosler Etip but they are pricey.

Don't forget the accubond. The Vmax is a Varment round. Not the best choice but can be used

I only use the 110 VMax for punching paper and to empty the factory brass to load good hunting bullets... I only use 95gr TTSX and 120gr SSTs on pigs but prefer the TTSX on the ones over 200 pounds. The 120gr SST works very well on deer with their thinner/lighter skin. My nephew has done very well with the 120 SSTs in his 6.8 on deer also.

Have killed several hogs and a decent 8pt with my 6.8 and really like the round. I really like the ar adjustable stock so i can adjust for how many clothes i have on.

Anyone use the 110gr Sierra Pro Hunter from Silver State Armory? Shoots decent groups out of my ARP but haven't had the chance to shoot anything with it.
Plan to test it out on deer and coyotes this year. Maybe a hog if one comes up.

A lot of people use the pro hunters but I havent had any luck with getting better than 2" groups. Also I dont care for soft point ammo.

I've shot the SSA 110 Pro Hunters out of my 16" ARP barrel and been able to get solid groups. Never measured but at the 50 yard zero shooting off the side of my truck, I was able to get less than 1" groups at 50 yards. Probably would have been tighter if I had a decent rest and was shooting for very tight groups.

The only bullet we use is the V Max on our hunts. We have had a wide variety of hunters from experienced hunters to people who have never killed an animal use the V Max and had excellent success with them. We shoot 6.8 and 300 AAC and have seen 300lb hogs put down with one shot. From my perspective as a guide, we have had the most success with the V Max.

I had reservations about the vmax at first.. However, at this point I have no idea how many hogs I've killed with them! I always had in mind to change to a different projectile but really can't see a need to! Performance has been good on body shots as well as neck/ear shots (my preference).

Both taken with 110 gr. V-Max handloads. Big sow @ 150 yds., smaller sow (w rifle) @ 125 yds. One right after the other.
