Had another great youth weekend with my son. Picked Ryan up from School on Friday, scouted Friday afternoon, found a hole loaded with ducks, Rayn put the hammer on them Saturday morning, 30 minutes after legal we were picking up the deeks, 3 widgeon drakes, a GWT drake, and a Gadwall hen. After our hunt and lunch, we scouted Saturday afternoon, found another spot that was holding ducks, so we hunted that Sunday. A little slower, but Ryan got one Gadwall drake, and 2 BWT hens, he should have had a limit tho, but it was great nonetheless. Below is a video of our scouting trips Fri and Saturday afternoon, and Saturday and Sunday morning hunts. We also did a BBQ Saturday night and ate some of the ducks Ryan shot.   Now Marcstar and txduckman posted before about not being able to get the bacon done w/o over cooking the duck, all you have to do is cook it over super hot fire, see before and after below.

Great job, Guy! A lifetime of memories for you and Ryan ... and I'll bet Molly will remember them too in her own way. Continued good luck this season. The three of you still have a standing invite to hunt with us. Ryan killed a Honker yet?

Yeah that video was great. I kind of liked how you could hear what yall were saying and that it was not all covered up with music like most people do.
How far behind Ryan were you guy? From the vid it looks like its a long way away...but man that made for a better video I think.

Ditto! Very nice video. Molly is doing great as well. Has to make you feel good to see Ryan knocking them dead like that and then Molly going and cleaning it up. Congrats to you Guy! Awesome, Before season is over that kid will have knocked down more ducks than most hunters on this forum! Just curious what career is he leaning to. Wildlife Biologist, Game Warden?

You guys should start a Jr division of the THF Duck Hunting contest. say 17, and under or something like that.

I don't know if there are enough jr waterfowlers to do it. I only know of 3 maybe 4 that are really into it.

I guess every kid is different, but the idea of my son hunting as part of a contest does not sit well for me. It just seems to go against a lot of things I try to teach him about hunting…. it is not all about how many birds you kill, but the time afield with friends and family.
I think competitive shooting should be left to sporting clay, there I let his competitive spirits fly, Ryan joined Dallas County 4H Shotgun Sports last spring and competed in one tournament. He did that March thru Aug last year, man what a difference that made in his shooting. Send me a PM if you want to get your kid involved.

He is too nice to be a Game Warden.   
Funny you ask that, he talks all the time about being a Wildlife Biologist, and he came up with that on his own. Mom wants him to be a doctor, she has 2 on her side of the family. I'll let him be what he wants to be.

I would say 20 or 25 yards on that first day because there was no cover, I went all the way back where there was some cover. Ryan is in the Avery Power Hunter, that thing is so low to the ground he is just like a mound of dirt.
