Does anyone on here know what the status on hunting in the refuges this year is? I looked up McFaddin online and it says that it is closed due to the lapse in Government funding...

Do we know if there will be exceptions for the hunting seasons??? I mean, they make money then... You'd think they would open back up...

Is there anyone on here who maybe works at a Wildlife Refuge??? Anahuac, Mcfaddin???

Anahuac was supposed to have a meeting at the gander mountain. did that take place?

Not sure..

But the sad thing is, it's not about them making money off the refuge. It's about bending us over.

Like kimmel said so well: its time for the government not to shut down but to shut up!

If the government shutdown continues into the season, it is very likely nobody will be able to access it.

Don't get mad at the refuge personnel, it is beyond their control. Law enforcement will still be around and enforcing regulations and closed areas.

However, places like WRP land owned by fws up north, and unmanned property are open in other states. Also, states have the option to open federal government places such as Parks if they pay for the costs to operate them.

Get over the name dropping bit. It is a public area that is huge. so just stop...

Also, I was not ragging on the law enforcement/refuge personell... I was wanting to hear first hand from one of them if they were on this forum. I don't know how you guys interpret things the way you do...

If you read my post, you would know I already looked online for info and it lead me to the site that said it is closed due to lapse in Government funding...

If you have no idea the answer, then why even comment on the post... Save your smart remarks, they are not needed...

Why be a DB? He didn't name drop. McFaddin is not some top secret location. Everyone knows it s a public refuge used for duck hunting. The whole gov't shutdown business is confusing for most, as separate bills get passed to open this place but not this one.

To answer the OP's question, no. They will not be open for season if the gov't shutdown doesn't end. A federal refuge back home in Arkansas is also closed and will not reopen until the shutdown is over. Or Congress does something to fund the Parks.

Looks like they may be reopening soon anyways. I work (as a contractor) for the government, so this is good news for me, as I have been on a partial furlough. Basically on call for almost 3 weeks. and forced to use vacation time if I want to keep my pay and benefits...

But if they don't get it fixed all the way, the 2nd split may get screwed up...

Thanks for the defense guys... I didn't really understand why someone would take issue with naming a PUBLIC wildlife refuge that is litteraly thousands of acres! And it is no secret...

No kidding. This post was in hopes that someone who maybe works directly at a NWR was on here and could tell me if they were possibly making exceptions for hunters. (the DOI website didn't clarify). I really don't understand why you are being such a douche.

PS-Golf is not even in my atmosphere. Most pointless game ever. And nothing will take the place of duck hunting. Especially not some crap game like golf... If it is not open, I'll still be hunting, just not at the NWR's.

Dont pay attention to the DBs who cry about naming a publuc lake or refuge. They think everyone will go out the next day and hunt it out. We should be sportsmen and try to get others involved in our sport.

I don't live on the coast but good luck, not crying and if the op desires I could point him in other directions. Plenty of public places within an hour of there
