Alright first post. I am Active Duty and will be PCSing down to Wichita falls in February. I know it super early for next seasons whitetail hunt, but I have read that there is also a spring turkey hunt. I have never hunted whitetail before only blacktail and muleys. I would have asked around and was told that the lease land hunting was the best way to go in Texas. Any and all info will be greatly appreciated, as I have no idea what counties are close to Wichita besides Wichita county. Thanks in advance. Good luck with this years white tail hunt!!!!!!!!

First welcome to Texas. Here is a map of Texas counties http://www.digital-topo-maps.com/county-map/texas.shtmlI am not familiar with any of the area counties around Wichita Falls. I would look at the listings in the leases section of the forum, and also do some searches for each of the surrounding counties to see what has been harvested. Watching the forum and asking questions will give you an idea. Also your hunting and fishing licenses are free courtesy of the State of Texas.

Welcome to the forum!
Usually leasing land is around $10 per acre in Texas. However, there are some places that are up to $20-$30 per acre depending on where your at.

Welcome to THF!!! I've hunted in the Wichita Falls area before. Its some pretty good hunting some of the better hunting in the area is going to be around the Wagoneer Ranch but its going to be top dollar for those leases also. I was on lease around Dundee that bordered the Wagoneer Ranch and it was probably the best deer lease I've ever been on for trophy deer.

Clay county in right next to Wichita County and produces some good deer, especially up by the red river (north side of the county), also there are some leases out further west toward Childress that produce good looking bucks. You should have no trouble finding something for next year within 90 minutes for next year, and if you are lucky you could find something within 15-20 minutes...you will be in a good central location to many areas that hold good deer. Good luck!
And Welcome and Thanks for your service! What branch you with?

I just got here to Dyess (Abilene) in august and the texas hunting is nothing ive ever done before either. im a vet whitetail guy, but there are no trees to hang all my summit climbers in. i got on a good lease and am on from there. get a feeder, get a blind, get ready to whack'em. you got mulies up there, opposed to down here. the hunting license is free...one of the many reasons i love texas.

to the great state of Texas. There's great hunting west of you if your willing to travel an hour or two. You can find pretty decent hunting closer to W.F. but the country is pretty ugly. Leases will vary a great deal in cost depending on what kind of hunting you want to do. Check out the land and lease section of this forum. Its a little late but you might find a spot open somewhere that fell through for someone else. Good luck and good hunting. And thanks for your service to our country.
