Has anyone been out bow hunting in DCNF since the government shutdown? What have you seen? Are rangers running folks off? I won't be down there until rifle but wanted to know if I'd get hassled scouting in the next couple of weeks.

I've heard unconfirmed reports that they are not letting anybody in. I'd like to know for sure though.

Government Shutdown Restricts Hunting on...nds Remain Open

Reading that link, it would seem that DCNF would remain open (except for camping) as there are no ticket booths per se.

Haven't hunted that area since the 80's. Of course, back then, it was come one, come all and at times it was ridiculous how many hunters were wandering around the woods. Nothing like seeing 8-10 orange vests along a highline opening at daybreak, lol. Brother shot a deer there one year and went to go find it. Once he got to it, another hunter was standing over it claiming it as his. Whatever. He avoided the confrontation and said have at it. I never went back because it always seemed like you would be sitting there and someone would walk thru your area. Hopefully it isn't as crowded now.

I just called Texas Parks and Wildlife. Hunting is open only campgrounds and offices are closed.

I have cousins that hunt at DCNF they have been up there the last few weekends. He said they haven't had a problem.

If the federal park rangers are furloughed, seems like there wouldn't be anyone to run you off. There really aren't gates all over the park either.
