A buddy from work asked me if i would take his 9 year old out for his first duck hunt ever on opening day youth weekend and i need some clarification on the rules. Does the youngster need to buy a type II license and a duck stamp? His dad asked me if adults were allowed to hunt with the kids on youth weekend, i told him i would think adult are not allowed to hunt youth weekend but i would find out for sure.

Kids only need a TX youth license until 16 when they are still a youth to the state but an adult to the feds. So at 16 they need a TX youth license and a federal duck stamp.

No adults can hunt during youth only.

If you are hunting APH land an accompanying adult does need to have the APH permit.

Deer and turkey are 16. It seems weird that at 16 you buy a TX youth license but can't hunt the youth duck season.
