I can almost bet my life savings it didn't come out of the ham. Nearly every deer I've ever euro mounted has them in the nasal cavity. It did't come from the ham, take it to the bank. Maybe yes, maybe no. Odd things, these bots. As parasites go, they're not the brightest crayons in the box. There are many different species of bots, and the one we see in whitetail deer prefer to live in the pharynx. But like all bots, they have a tendency to get lost on their migration and occasionally end up in Miami, when they meant to go to Chicago. And occasionally, a bot from one animal--say, a cow--just might end up truly lost and find itself in a goat. On many occasions, I've fished Cuterebra larvae, which prefer rabbits and some rodents, out of cats.

X2 on the cattle grub. They end up right under the skin and bore a hole through the hide to breath while they mature. You can pop them like a pimple and the grub come shooting out. Don't see them much anymore, but I have worked with them in cattle. Deer can be alternate hosts.
