I'm leaving for New Mexico in 2 weeks to hunt mule deer in unit 2B. I will be by myself on another solo/unguided hunting adventure. One thing I'm hearing is that the roads in this unit are often locked at gates and even if they're open, if they are wet, they are all but impassable. One way to hunt remote areas of this unit is by boat from the Navajo Lake. So - figuring that's my best bet, I'm looking for a small aluminum boat to buy, rent, or borrow.
If you have anything available in the DFW area, please let me know.

You might try a canoe/raft rental on a river some where in your area, if there are any.

thanks - Yeah, I called both marinas on the lake and all their rentals are "put up" and winterized. No rentals available until April.

Good luck on the boat. As to the roads, the flooding in northern New Mexico was bad last month, it didn't make the national news like the Colorado flooding did. We watched the local news while in New Mexico so be prepared for some roads to be gone, totally wiped out.

I hunted unit 51 for elk the last week of archery (9/13- 9/22)and was stuck in it.

I've got an extra one. 12 foot alumacraft, registered in TX. I've been saving it for the grandson, but that seems pointless. We live about 40 miles east of Waco. PM me if interested.
