I shot my Sika this morning after having a tough day yesterday. In some ways I'm glad I had to work for him being that this was my first exotic hunt. Yesterday we found the Sika first thing but the animal I was after was being very uncooperative. It was standing in the brush showing only one side. We were only able to see the other side after it started moving. We saw him a couple more times we got set up a couple of times but each time he turned off early. This morning he started the same game but stopped briefly in a gap in the brush line. I made a quick shot, he had started moving again, causing me to shoot a little back, but the angle was such that it took out the aorta and one lung, stopping in the neck. Pictures will be posted when I get Photobucket to cooperate.

Believe it or not that is the smallest of the shooter bucks Walter has. There are at least 3 trophy 4x4 Japanese and 2 Dybowski in the pasture. It's 500 acres with a lot of it thick brush except for the big field by the road. The rifle is a custom 30/06 built on a 1909 Argentine action with a 11x4 Leupold VX Hog scope.

Well worth the drive!

A few more comments before I pack the computer up for the trip home. The main ranch is more open than the pasture I hunted and would hunt differently then the pasture I hunted. I was hunting for one particular animal in a 500 acre pasture, that animal was wary and spooky, which made for a great hunt it was well worth the trip. I saw a lot of other great trophies on the ranch, black buck, fallow, scimitar, addax, and red deer.

Nice deer and nice rifle. I grew up reading John Wootters religously and loved his Mannlicher stocked 308. I knew one day, I would have to have a full stock rifle and am now buying my third. They bring back good memories every time I shoot them and it is nice to see others enjoying their beauty as well.

Walter tell Rickey I also enjoyed hunting with him. I got off the road in Emporia KS and I'm unwinding before going to bed. This is probably not my last Texas exotic hunt. The next hunt will likely be for an axis but you never know. Feel free to use me for a reference.
