Taking a 9 year old hunting for the first time. His mom works with my girlfriend and told him in June i'd take him. He is pumped to say the least. No father figure in his life, hopefully it will be a good experience for him and maybe he will get an opportunity to shoot something. Any legal buck is Ok this weekend for him. Damn antler restrictions....... Good luck to everyone!

If you are in the stand with him i dont think he has to have one, you just have to be within normal voice range of him.

I believe you are correct.

* Accompanied means: By a person who is at least 17, who is licensed to hunt in Texas, who has passed hunter education or is exempt (born before Sept. 2, 1971), and you must be within normal voice control. Proof of certification or deferral is required to be on your person while hunting. Note: Certification is not required to purchase a hunting license.

BigMike, taking child hunting that would not have the chance to experience hunting otherwise is one of the most important things us hunters can do. I did it last year and will never forget the happiness in his eyes when he downed a 6 point out of my stand and was never more proud of my own son for giving up his "spot" so his friend could get his first deer.
Take A Child Hunting and God Bless.

Taking my boys all weekend. They will have to take turns, because I am not going to have both of them in the stand at the same time.

Your son did a great thing and you did as well. That is a day the 3 of you should never forget.

I believe i'm as excited to take him hunting as he is to go. The best times of my life have been sittin in a tree or stand, no matter if i saw 15 deer or 0 deer. I hope this can be passed onto this young man, just the appreciation for the outdoors and nature. Taking an animal is a great way to top it all off!

We are doing a special youth hunt again this year for some kids from the Waco Methodist Home. The hunt is being sponsored by Academy, Lake Waco Corps of Engineers, Lake Waco Park Rangers, and TPWD.

We shot two very nice 7 point bucks and three does, last year. All the meat was processed by Hoffman's Meat Processing and was donated back to the Home.

This is the second year that we have done this hunt; last year the hunt was filmed for the Academy Outdoors TV show. The kids had a blast last year, and I'm sure that they will do so again this year!

Leaving tomorrow to take the boy out for his 2nd year.

When is a good time to start letting them shoot a good buck? Last year he shot a spike and a doe. Thought about waiting a couple of years before letting him tag a nice deer in order to give him something to look forward to.

Leaving today with my 2 boys and 3 of the buddies from the football team. We've been seeing lots of does so they should have a good weekend.
This is a great weekend for me. I love taking my boys out and spending this great time with them.

My friend is bringing his 3 boys down from Ft Worth to hunt this weekend. We have several good bucks for them to take a crack at, along with all of the dang hogs. They came down 2 weeks ago and shot 5 hogs, a black buck, axis doe, 2 bobcats, then went fishing. Those kids are a hoot to get in the woods. His 10 year old has a .223 he shoots, and this kid is a crack shot. There is a 6.5 year old buck that hangs out by the barn that we are going to try ti get him on. If he gets it done he will be smiling for weeks. Our neighbor has a high fence place, a heavy rain washed a gap open and bunches of his game got out last year. This buck has a ear tag so I'm not sure if he was one of his breeder bucks or not, but he will score around 180. I have been after my neighbor to come over and dart him, to take him back home....Nada. He lives in Houston and hates all of us around here, would not help anyone at any time. We have black buck, axix, red stag, bucks and does with ear tags, and all kinds of things running around. If his place had been next to mine I would have fixed the fence. But he is 2 places over and could care less. So we are going to whack away on some of his prize game.

I feed Indian Corn, the deer really seem to like it and stay at the feeder longer......and longer....!
