I know it's summer now, but I'm interested in squirrel hunting on public land this fall. Actually, I'm interested in shooting some squirrels anytime, since there is no closed season in Collin County.

I have had squirrel damage to my roof as well as my car (a squirrel got into the engine compartment and tore up wiring that cost me $785 to fix), as a result, I have been shooting every squirrel that I see in my back yard with my pellet gun. I live in North Dallas and was wondering if anyone knew whether it was legal/illegal to shoot a pellet gun in your yard (I'm not letting the pellet go onto anyone else's property) and/or or kill squirrels in your backyard in Dallas.

You can get a hunting permit from the Corps of Engineers office on Grapevine Lake. Th office is on the dam practically, and the hunting area is from the north end of the lake all the way to 35W

My question about Lake Grapevine is this. Can you use .22s there? And for all you squirrel hunters, do the hog hunters get upset that you're chasing squirrels? Would love to take my boys out there but I'm worried about all the hog hunters.

Carrying a handgun or rifle of any kind on US Army Corps of Engineers Property is prohibited under Title 36 CFR, regardless of the user’s activity, hunting permit, or Concealed Handgun License status. Shotguns are permitted only with a valid general or migratory bird hunting permit.”. From http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/grapevine/Recreation/Hunting/Hunting.asp

That's good to know. So any of the hog hunters on Grapevine will be using bows or shotguns --- no rimfire/centerfire allowed.

best time to learn behind a .410 for squirrels. We used to go all the time and have squirrel stew, or fried squirrel. Man it was good.

Has anybody tried this ammo, it's very quiet 560 fps I've shot that ammo in my backyard....I definitely wouldn't trust it to kill squirrels unless very, very close and only head shots. I've shot many a squirrel with a .22 LR and it sometimes took 3-4 shots to get them out of the tree. They are tough little suckers.
