Guys I have had my heart set on getting a Vizsla for about the past year, and I was hoping that some of you guys that have experience with breeders could point me to some that you have had good experience with. I don't know how realistic this is, but I would like to try to stay under 500. I don't need anything that is going to win contests, just a good healthy dog that can retrieve birds and hopefully do some tracking. Traveling to Houston or DFW is no issue for me, just trying to plan ahead so I can put a deposit down on one when the time is right. Sorry for the broad request but this will be my first dog so I am trying to get an early start. Thanks

I don't think you will find one for close to that price from a breeder. Maybe a rescue dog.

For that price, check your local paper and hope for the best. A dog that's proven in the field and health wise of the breed is gonna cost about twice that.
I'll take a Black Female every time.

That is a $1000-$1500 puppy.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Thats kind of what I was worried about, is it just because it is a less common breed? I know of plenty of people with other breeds that have gotten great dogs for less than 500...

Yes its more because of the breed. Pretty dogs that hunt well cost a pretty penny because they are rare. A good hunting Weim is another good example, they too as well go for the same price for a good one.
Might look at a GSP, much cheaper and easier to find.
I'll take a Black Female every time.

I raise them, but unless I have some I can't sell, price will be higher. I already have a pretty long waiting list. Should have a litter before Christmas.

I appreciate it guys, I will look hard, but may end up looking for something a little cheaper or saving up a little longer. At least time is on my side.

If you want a vizsla, get a vizsla. You'll be happy with your choice.
Save longer for it you have to.
You're going to pay $1,000 plus for a Vizlsa, just a regular one. One with a good pedigree will be more. Over the 12 years, that difference in money will be a drop in the bucket, you won't even notice it. You have feed, vet bills, hunting stuff, bones, etc.

I dont think that they will fit into your price range, but Culvers Legacy is a Central Texas field bred Vizsla breeder. If you REALLY want a Vizsla, you need to save your money and do your research. This is a very rewarding breed, but take your time and get a good one!

I paid 500 for my girl from a old Hungarian guy in Houston ,,, she makes me look like a master dog trainer ,,,, all I did was teach her basic commands and introduced her to quail and she ran with it . Very smart and a great family inside dog , Pm me and I will try to find his number

Vizsla rescue organization is a great place to start. We rescued ours a couple years ago and can't be happier.
