First time poster on the THF...
My wife's cousin has a bunch of land out in northern Andrews County and southern Gaines County. I am going on my first ever mule deer hunt for their short season around Thanksgiving. I was wondering if any of y'all have ever hunted out there and can tell me what to expect. I have done very little whitetail hunting...pretty much bird hunt only. Thanks in advance!

I have lived in Andrews for 22 yrs and I can tell you there are some monster mule deer. They get big because there is not a very large population of them so don't expect to see very many. Also Andrews co. is very flat with few trees so expect a long shot. Hope this helps.

Be ready to hunt in sandy hills with thigh high shinoak and like bow hunt said, you better be ready to see some big ones. They may be few and far in between, but the one you see may be THE ONE. It will be flat and sandy with some rolling hills. That sand is tough to walk around in all day, but the rewards might be worth it.

Thanks for the info! His land is just west of Florey and Monument Draw runs right through it so I expect that might be the most promising. I know it's pretty flat but there is some elevation change along that draw from my early research.

Look for water, troughs or dirt tanks. They have taken some MONSTER mule deer from this area in the last few years. Be ready for some long shots and walking in sand. Not very much vegitation so break up your outline with camo ect. Best of luck to ya

Anyone else know anything? I've sighted in the rifle and been getting everything else ready. I appreciate the info and will post some pics if I am successful!

Take a good set of binos.. Do alot of glassing, those mulies blend in pretty darn good w/ that terrain. I always thought a highseat would be the ultimate weapon.. Good luck!!
