Ya, that's my next step, looking for problems with either rifle, common problem seem to be the stock...

So I decided to go with the savage fv-sr, would a mid ring be able to clear the barrel and bolt?

I have the savage mark II. It was one of my first gun's. At fifty yards you can expect one hole groupings, in other words it is an amazing gun, I have had no issues with mine and as far as maintenance goes I take the bolt out and wipe it down with rem oil every time I use it along with use a bore snake on the barrel. Every once in a while I take it all the way down and clean the nooks and crannies but I am talking every 2000 rounds or more. Overall it is the most accurate .22 I own.

God Bless America, God bless the Constitution.

I have Burris XTR mediums on mine in a 40mm scope.

I think I would definitely go with the Savage then. You can pick one up that's can ready from the factory for under $300 if you look hard enough.

EDIT: Shows what I know. I wasn't aware that Marlin produced a threaded barrel option as well. Nevermind.

I've had a Marlin (?)N (forgot the model) for 25 years nearly. 7 shot clip bolt action. Super accurate. Basic and cheap. Gets the job done.

I saw you chose the Savage and I'm sure you'll get tons of enjoyment from it. I have the xt-22 and enjoy it a great deal. However, I'm pretty sure that most bolt action rimfires in your price range would have done pretty well.

Did you scope it yet? I had to go with high rings to clear a 40mm scope.
