ok I need a poll here.
I have been using 150grn Sierra Gamekings but I like the ballistics of the 130 grn instead
So I shot in 4 different loads and I'm still not convinced
First choice 130 Grn Nosler ballistic tip Second choice 130 Grn Federal Fusion Boat tail Third choice 150 Grn Federal Fusion Boat tail Fourth choice 150 Grn Nosler tip
My gun likes the 130 Nosler but it shoots like 4 ins high with them
I like the idea of the Fusion cause I had been shooting Sierra Game Kings with boat tail.
What do you guys think???
I will post the target results later {read after work}
Thanks

140 grain Hornady custom ammo. Or try a 140 grain bullet in your handloads. I switched from 130s about 10 years ago. Got way better accuracy and better killing power. It also worked in my buddies 270.

IMO, just pick the one that your rifle likes. And if your rifle is shooting the 150gr Sierra's, why change?
According to the Federal and Fusion websites, they are all within 1" at 300 yds in terms of drop from a 200 yds zero. They are all within an inch in terms of wind drift. And the 150s have a slight edge in energy. No deer will ever know the difference.
But you said you wanted to go to 130's. If so, I would recommend the Fusions, assuming your rifle "likes" them, because at close range they, being a bonded bullet, would hold together better, penetrate better, and likely cause less meat damage.

My vote goes to the Federal Premium 140 grain Nosler Accubond. They work great in my 270!!

22 short you should be able to get the entire round casing and all down the barrel, does anyone know what the grain of bullet, casing and power of the majestic and feared by all east texas deer, 22 short would be?

140gr. Hornady BTSP for me. Almost all of the deer I have shot with it (30-40) drop in their tracks. Even the bucks shot behind the shoulder.

Sorry to be so anal, but was the range 100 yds? Off a steady bench? How many shots and how many groups? How do the GameKings shoot?

Thanks for the reply
yeah it was 100 yds
lead sled w 25 lb weight
3x9-40 Nikon dialed way in
5 shots each load
I used a bore snake before I started then again between the 150s and the 130s
the 150 Nosler was first so they were cold bore that's why I allowed for the flyer
Not really any cross wind it was pretty still
I didn't shoot any Gamekings this trip just the Fusions and the Noslers
Thanks again

My favorite ammo for deer in my .270 is the Winchester Supreme Elite XP in 130 grain bullet. This stuff is really pricey, will cost you at approx. $50.00/box. I feel that the ammo is the cheapest thing you can buy when hunting a mature deer.

I don't know if you would be interested or not, but you might try the plain Federal Power Shok ammo. They are cheap and not a premium bullet, but the 130 gr's shoot just as good in my 270 as the Federal Premium's and everything else I've tried, and better than most, at 100 yards I've never had a 3 shot group larger than about 2'', most were closer to 1'' or 1 1/2''.

I think you need to check for loose screws, and maybe try cleaning you gun a different way, those are some pretty big groups for a scoped rifle on a lead sled bench. My three altime favorites in my 270 are 140 grain NBT, 150 grain Nosler patition, and What I am shooting now because they are cheaper 150 grain hornady interlock(all handload except 140nbt's)

All I've ever shot through my .270 is Federal Premium 130grn Nosler Ballistic Tip ammo. It has taken everything I have shot at. I prefer it to all the others but that is just me. You have to be comfortable with what ever round you decide on.

Thanks for all the input guys and gals
I am going to clean the Heck out of the unit this weekend and then repeat
All the screws and such seem to be tight so it must be pilot error
We'll see
Thanks again

I too am switching to the 130gr. Federal Fusions this year after shooting nothing be Rem. Core-Locts for so long. I think more manufactures should offer a 140gr load for the .270win soft point that is not a "premium" bullet. Texas white tail do NOT grow up with body armour on them.

Second, third, and fourth that. Accubond, XP3 or TTSX

If your gun likes the 130 gr Nosler why not just click your scope down a couple inches, sight it in and use them? I don't understand the problem here.
If your looking for a load thats going to shoots the exact same POI as the Sierra's you've been shooting you may be looking a very long time.
No two different brand bullets/cartridges hit in the same spot very often, even when they are the same weight.
BTW if the Sierra's shoot well in your gun, use em'.
Believe me, ballistics written on paper look a whole lot different than they do in the field. What I mean is I don't think you'll notice a magically different laser like trajectory by going to 130's like you are expecting.
Don't mean to sound smart azz, it's just friendly advice. I've been handloading for two 270's for many years and a few other rounds over the yrs. I would go with whatever spitzer from 130-150gr shoots best in your gun and not worry about 2-3 inches of drop at 400 yds.
